I use Yasmin (pill) and it's fine, though pricey. I've used a number of different pills over the years - really liked Mercilon (pill) too - cheaper than Yasmin. I would have to take the pill even if I wasn't interested in BC.

We also use condoms.

ETA: I may switch to Seasonale when it becomes available over here.

I used to take Loestrin but now I take Estrostep.
I've heard of more problems with ones that have different levels of hormone, because then you are still all pms-y that week. I agree. But Loestrin was discontinued at the clinic (10$ a month! Subsidized by the school, since, well, girls who have babies tend to drop out) so I switched. I love my doctor.
Since the specific synthetic hormone in the first one worked out pretty well for me, I stayed on it.

When I first started taking either of them, I noticed I got really weird and paranoid and maybe a little depressed during week three, but I knew it was just the hormones and it subsided after a couple months. My sister warned me that the same thing happened to her, so I was prepared.
The only other negative effect is the weight gain, although that might have nothing to do with the pill.

I have noticed that my cycles are so much easier, I'm less moody, and the actual dread event is much shorter and lighter where before it was pretty much a disaster.

Also, it makes me want to smoke less.

We used condoms. I didn't use hormonal methods because of the possibility of it being an abortifacient. But since we're done having children now, my husband got a vasectomy.

I used Femranette (sp?) and i used Yasmin, Yasmin was horrible for me!

I honestly don't want to take the pill, they made me a bit crazy so I was seeing if any of you guys have any alternates other than the pill.

I dont have problems with my periods, (without the pill) but i dont want to use something that may prevent me from having children later in life.

I have tried all kinds of bc. My favorite was the patch.(Orth Evra) I have hormonal problems and bc pills really messed me up. I got pregnant with Hannah (my 4 yr old) taking Ortho-Tricyclen lo.A good friend of mine had been taking the depo shot and she is now 7 weeks pregnant. I planned my current pregnancy;this lil' boy is going to be my last child, and I am getting a tubal...Really it's your preferance, and your body's.

I got pregnant while using Ortho-Tricyclen lo as well. Though I wasnt taking it to not get pregnant. I was taking it for "female problems". And they told me I couldnt have kids anyway.
My step-sister also got pregnant while using that too.
I'd say..if you dont want baby, Ortho-Tricyclen lo is NOT the one you want to use.

I tried several BC pills.(Ortho 7/7/7, Nordette) After the birth of my last child 4th), I had a tubal.
It was the WORST thing I could have done. This is just MY experience.
My periods became so much harder, more pain and more mess. They were irregular, so I never knew when I would or wouldn't have one.The last straw for me, came in October of 2004.I had went without a period from July of 2004 to October of 2004.I had to be rushed to the ER for hemmoraging. It took them 5 mintues to clean me up enough to do the "wonderful" pelvic examine.2 ultrasounds,a CT scan, x-rays with contrast.....showed I had some real problems.
I ended up having a TVH (Total Vaginal Hysterectomy) It was the BEST thing I have ever done for myself!!! I do not regret it one bit.
I had problems from my Manual D&C that I had to have after the birth of my 4th child and the tubal. Here is my bio from a hysterectomy site that I belong to.

suffered from DUB,Ovarian&Cervical Cysts,Uterine Polyps,Severe Clotting,Stage 2 Uterine Prolapse,Uterus 14 cm(3 month pg),Adenomyosis
TVH on April 5,2005- Kept Ovaries,cervix went.Uterus weighed 182 grams.Cervix was swollen
*pray*Thanking God that I had this done, and would do it all over again!!!

I used the Nuvo Ring and I loved it. You have to insert it yourself and leave it in for three weeks. Then you take it out for a week so you can have your period and then you put it back in for another 3 weeks. It doesn't fall out (I don't know how) but it works really well. And he can't feel it either. Now we just use condoms since I'm nursing and can't take the pill.

The IU coil has become less risky over time, but you should talk to your obgyn about whether the incidence of infertility is still considered a risk.

Have you tried both types of pill (the 1 type all month long like Yasmin and the 3 different pills at different times)? Many people find a significant difference between them.

If you are comfortable having only one method of BC (we are paranoid, so we use two) the condom is a good option.

I am so sorry that you had such a horrible experience. I am considering (for in the future) a tubal ligation, but I would also have the lining of my womb destroyed at the same time (can remember what that's called). I often wonder why more doctors don't recommend it - if you're having the tubal anyway, why not the other as well? It's much less invasive and means no more bleeding.

Of course, I'm not saying that this was an option in your case - I'm merely speculating on the wider question.

Well, it's good to hear about other expiences, but definately have a long talk, an in depth talk with your obgyn about your options before you decide anything.
