My kittens are coming up on two weeks old. We're getting 103 degree weather out here and I'm worried it may be getting to hot in the house for the kittens and my cats. We dont have an AC and the house is nearly as hot inside as outside even with the blinds closed and lights off.

I've been putting ice in the cats water for momma cat and Lovey so they have cold water. but I dont know what if anything I should do for the kittens.

Today I read a good pointer...fill an empty 2 liter soda bottle with water, and freeze. Then set in front of the fan so it helps cool the room. Be aware that it will sweat condesation, so wrap it in paper towels and put it on something waterproof.

I don't think it is safe for kittens to overheat. I don't have AC either, and I don't foster the tiny babies in the summer. Do your best to keep them comfortable. I don't think you want a fan blowing right on the babies, but certainly have one nearby.

I wish I had some advice, but really just writing to say, I am just as concerned. We bought a swamp cooler thing (and edgestar brand in case your wondering), but it still feels very, very hot during the day with no a/c or windows open. I am always so relieved to come home and find our very prego cat lying on the tile floor in the bathroom. I think its coolest in there, and she found it! I keep telling myself they are survivors!

That's also the best place for her to have her kittens...easy clean up....and believe me, when the kittens get older and start "learning" to use the litterbox....easy clean up is your friend.

I've been worried about this too, as our weather has been the same. I have one 3 week old kitten and 5 kittens that are almost a week old (these are Sasha's babies!). They have been in a bedroom in a med. dog crate, with Sasha coming and going as she pleases. Last night I tried putting a box fan in the room with them, but on the med. setting and not directed at the opening of the crate. I also had the idea of putting one of those ice packs that you put in ice chests on top of the crate- as the water inside melted it cooled off the inside of the crate some. My gram suggested today to go ahead and put the ice pack inside the crate, just put it to one side and off to an end and cover it with a towel and the kittens would be get as close or stay as far from it as they needed to. I'll be checking back too to see if anyone else has suggestions- this was a good question!

I am hoping that Sasha is coming and going as she pleases INSIDE the house. It is very unwise to allow an intact cat to have access to the outdoors as cats can become pregnant again as early as a couple of days after giving birth. Instead of a box fan...I would use an oscalating fan that cools down the room...but isn't blowing directly on them at all times.
