Today we got our only female cat (Ellie) (out of 4 cats) sprayed today. My dad said that the vet said we needed to separate her from the other cats. So we did and she is in her own room by herself with food, water and a litter box. Within the last couple of hours she has been scratching at the door and wanting to come out. I am now wondering if maybe we are suppose to put the other cats up and let her roam the house and have it all to herself?. I dont know what the right thing is to do. I just know she cant be left with any other cat(s) for 24 hrs. I am worried that if she keeps scratching at the door and trying to get out then she might hurt herself. Any tips, suggestions? TIA

i have never heard of separating them for 24 hours, just to keep them quiet - which I have never been able to do, even when the first foster I got done was in a room by herself, she still decided to climb the wardrobe cos I took her climbing spot away from her!! So I personally would be more concerned about keeping her quiet, and stopping the others fussing her stitches.

I think they said that so she wouldn't rip her stitches open. It is important to make sure that she isn't running and jumping around or getting into fights where her wound can be opened up.

I'm a nurse, trust me you do not want to see an abdominal wound open up.

I would think that it would be ok to keep the cats together when you are present, but if you go out or to bed, put her apart from the other cats.

What Natalie said, We kept my kitty in the computer room with all her stuff, she was fine when i left for work, but when i got home she had been jumping on stuff and tore open the wound. poor kitty had to be taken back, and put back together again. so i would not let near the other cats yet. Go in the room with her so she does not feel alone.
