I just finished reading the paper and there was an article about a dog that was put in the crematorium (the oven) before the euthanasia dose worked.
This makes me so so sad. I don't understand how someone can miss something like this. I would think the dog would still have a heartbeat. Do they not check for this?? The paper said they checked his reflexes and he appeared dead. It makes me wonder how many times this happens. One time is way to many if you ask me. The paper says it's possible but not common. I think these people working at the shelter need to be trained a little better on how to tell if the animal is dead or not before they burn it alive. I just wish people would take better care of their animals so things like this don't have to happen.

It is horrible. Pet overpopulation is horrible and if every person who had an animal spayed and neutered, we wouldn't have this problem.

Sadly, most shelters are so over run with animals that I can see how this was missed - I'm not excusing it or condoning it - but I know shelter workers who have to euthanize 100 cats a day in some areas and sadly, in order to maintain their sanity, they have to block the reality of what they are doing out. It's disgusting what our society has allowed to happen to our animal population.

This is why people should not be buying and breeding animals - we need to FIX the problem that already exists before creating more.

I don't know if it is allowed on this site, but I have some real eye opening videos that have been made by caring people and shelter workers alike - if everyone was forced to watch these videos - to SEE the reality - the pet overpopulation problem would be a lot less.

My heart breaks for each and every animal that makes that turn into the wrong door of the euthanasia room.

yes it is sooooo sad. I about cried when I read it.
I wish there was more I could do to help but I just don't know where to start.
I want to create a website with information on adopting animals and diferent places you can go to get your pets fixed cheaper.

This is sort of a gruesome question, but how did they know the dog hadn't died yet? Did it revive inside the crematorium? Sorry, i know it's an unsettling question . ..

It started to wake up when it was in the crematorium so they took it out thankfully and gave it some more drugs and then made sure it had really passed on before they put it in again.

You can start locally - volunteer to post about animals in your local shelter - contact rescues about the ones that are not being placed.

Arrange a spay/neuter clinic once a month or even a one time deal with a local vet(s) and advertise it with posters - have people either donate what the can for the speuter or have it free for those that cannot afford anything.

Contact people who post in papers about free animals - educate them as to what happens to a large percentage of free animals once they leave their original home - offer to help contact rescues, educate them to at LEAST spay or neuter their animal before selling it and ALWAYS ask for money ... the money can be given to your local shelter or rescue group ... no animal should EVER be given away for free - it invites the wrong people to take them.

I could go on, if you want more suggestions.

Any educational web site would be great if you have them. I have a few and I have already asked the permission of the owner of the site if I could use there site when and if I start a web page.
I'm thinking of starting a local web page first but I'm afraid not enough people will go to it.
My boyfriend suggested starting a forum on my web page for people with questions on animal health and contact vets that can answer the question for people.
Of course they would get advertising for answering questions that may help people out.

I also want to have a section for lost pets. I would post pictures of any lost pets and contact information for the people that lost them. I want a section for pets that need to be adopted in different parts of the state like a pet of the week or something. Oh yeah and where you can get your pets fixed for cheaper if you can't offered it and chipped. I have all these Ideas I just don't know how to put all the information together on a web site.

Just horrible!!!!!!!

I think a good documentary, showing ALL the gruesome details is needed to be made and distributed widely.
