I am taking care of a pregnant cat that is due any day now, I am currently residing in one city but I will be moving to another city around the end of August. My boyfriend has already moved to this city and we signed on the house today. Should I go ahead and take her on a three hour drive to this city and risk having her go into labor tommorrow while i am driving (which is what he wants me to do) or should i wait untill the end of august and take her with the new born kitties which will be really young and both mother and kitties might be traumitized by the experience. Please help, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

how far along is she? she might tolerate the drive alone better then being scared herself and having kits.

She is expecting any day now, her belly is jumping around like a water bed.Not sure of the exact date she got pregnant but i think it was early to mid May.

Might be easier to drive her there now, so she can get used to the place, and give her a place to have her babies. and so you dont have to try to transport the young and her, which will spaz her out even more.

also, it ill make you feel better, not having to worry about her babies while trying to move, which is very stressful in and of it self!

Well the movers are coming tommorrow to take most of the furniture, the only thing that will be here is some clothes and a folding cot for me untill i get the transfer to austin which should be about the end of august.

Dont cats normally give birth in the early hours? I think I read somewhere that they most often give birth around 3am as in the wild that would be a quiet time.

If you took her mid day and used a large, comfy cage, she might be ok.

I agree with doing it now rather than waiting for the kits. Who kn ows how long it might take her to feel safe in a new enviroment with newborns.

Part of me wants to take her tomorrow but on the other hand she gets along with me the best and i want to be there with her when she goes into labor and i cant do that if i am here and she is three hours away, selfish maybe but i dont want her to feel alone when she is this way.

If you are going to be there (old location) and can keep an eye on her....than you can keep her at the location you are at. However....she does need someone there in case she has an issue with the delivery. I would also remove all the items from the room she is in that will be moved tomorrow...that way she isn't disturbed. Also, don't let the movers go into that room as it may freak her out and she may end up hiding in a place you wouldn't like for her to give birth in.
