Yet ANOTHER disappointment

The "great new job" I have been boasting about turned out to be a flop.
I found out after 2 weeks of training it's telemarketing. I feel so gullible. I don't know how they can do this to people. They hired 5 of us at once. That should have been the first clue. One woman didn't last the first week and quit. The last 4 of us stayed until today... well me at least.
I went to them and questioned the position again and asked for a print out of the job description and they couldn't/wouldn't provide it to us. So I let them know at lunch that it wasn't for me and I didn't appreciate them misleading all of us. They tried to talk me into staying but after find out the $12.75/hr was actually $8.75/hr and if you meet your quota for the week they give you the $12.75/hr... if not you only make the $8.75/hr..I was less then pleased and told them to mail my check and walked out.
How can companies do this? They call telemarketing "Loan Processing" and "Customer Service" and "Verifying"... They completely misrepresented the position.
So I'm back to square one with job hunting... Wish me luck!

I'm so sorry that you've had this disappointment DixieDarlin, I know it has been very rough for you lately.

Is there anyone you can report them to, like a better business bureau?

That happened to me once. When I quit my boss store a check from me, wrote it for himself, and cashed it for $150.

I managed to get the money back, though.

Those people are vultures.

OMG what a jerk!

There's a place like that here too. They boast $8/hr, but in reality it's $5.15/hr if you miss one second of scheduled time (and they set it up so that you absolutely HAVE to work on your day off to make all of your scheduled hours too). They don't list their job as "telemarketing" either. They're always hiring because people are always quitting. I wish you luck in your job search.

Thats what they did too. I originally applied for the recieptionist position, as did 2 other girls, and since that position was filled they called and said they had an opening in "loan processing" and it paid great!
None of us in the training knew about the other person either. They acted like we were the only one who had the qualifications...what a bunch of BS

DH is job hunting, too. I have seen some great jobs on-line. Its not until I do a search of the company that I find they are selling insurance or something. Why would an electronics technician want to sell insurance?!? Yet the e-mails come in continually!

They are very sneaky. I'm glad you got wise to them. Watch for that paycheck...fly by nights like to not pay sometimes!

Good luck with the job hunting., at least you found out now and are out of it sooner rather than later.

I did that before I started there also. I researched it and they do have a website and everything IS legit w/the company.. I don't doubt that.. but they are decietful on thier hiring. I asked them on MANY occasions if it was telemarketing and they insisted it wasnt.
One good thing that did come out of it is I made a really good friend while in there. She called me when she left there today @ 4:30 and said her last day is tomorrow. We are going to go job hunting together on monday

Wow! I hope your new searches go a lot better! That's horrible.

A couple of years ago, I almost got lured into a job...until I found out that I had to PAY yes PAY for training. I told them I already payed for training...its called a degree and stopped returning their calls.

That's crazy! I have seen alot like that

It happened to me a couple times to. I applied for this customer service sales job. They pretty much told us we were calling people that ordered ink cartridges from them and we were just making courtesy calls to let them know the prices are raising and that we will offer them up to six more packs at the old rate. I figured ok I can do this. When they started us on the phones they gave us a page from the phone book and told us to start calling. It ended up being mostly based on commission which they didn't tell us either. The sad thing is when we called these poor business we actually told them that we were their normal ink cartridge supplier.

Oh, Dixie - I would be LIVID!!! Years ago I went to a ONE day seminar for a customer service position and then I found out it was for a vacuum cleaner sales! I went right up to the front of the room and demanded my application back. I didn't want those people to have any personal info about me.I was very ticked off and that was only ONE day!
