I just received my August issue of Reader's Digest in the mail. In their "Ask Laskas" section I came across the following story (paraphrased to avoid copyright problems):
A womans writes that for years her teenage daughter has been asking for a cat. She gave in but regrets doing so because she like to have a clean house and now, doesn't feel relaxed in her home. She wants to tell her daughter that the cat has to go, what should she do...
Signed "Feline Phobic"
The reply:
Dear Phobic,
Laskas replies that she is animal lover and is siding with the daughter and the cat. She suggests coming up with a plan to possibly only allow the cat in certain areas of the house. She reminds "Phobic" that taking care of a pet is a chance to give her daughter the sense of responsibility. She ends with "Clean the litter box. Save the cat!"
You can email Jeanne Marie Laskas at [email protected]. I have already done so. I think that it is awesome that she sided with the cat when so many columnists would have said, human comfort is more important.
