Emmie again. Lately she has been following hubby downstairs in the mornings to eat her breakfast and go potty. She then comes back upstairs to my room. Well she's outside the room because I have my door shut. As I'm rounding up the dogs and getting ready to leave the room Emmie bolts in while the dogs are bolting out and she goes under the bed. "Emmie....you know you'll be in here all day" I say. Nothing-nada. I lock our door because the boy child cannot be trusted so off I go. She will be in there for 14 hours and when I get home she's very happy to see me but still wont leave the room, weirdo. What amazes me is how she can hold her potty for so long. Anyone else have a cat like that?

I've locked a cat in my bedroom on accident once or twice and have had very different reactions
Simon would just chill all day, but Antigone and Pandora got very upset, and, uh, made there displeasure obvious by the mess on the carpet
I guess it depends on the individual, maybe Emmie likes her "alone" time?

I would put a litter pan and water in there for her Leah and just let her chill. She may not all the competition around there

I agree with Hissy. I would at least put one litter pan in there. Or else don't be mad at her if one day she cannot hold it and goes on the floor or on your bed or clothes.

She obviously prevers to be in the bedroom so why lock her out?

I've thought about a litter pan and she gets her water from the toilet. I dont mind her being in there I just think it's strange that she would want to be locked up in there all day. She's my little loner girl alright.

Wouldn't you rather give her a small water bowl? I'm sure cats don't care, but drinking out of the toilet is gross and it actually could be harmful if there is any cleaning product still in the bowl or water.

I keep my toilets very clean because of the fact that the dogs and cats will drink out of them. I dont use chemicals on anything either but thank you for your concerne.

Do you and your family drink from the toilet too?

I ask you that because you might want to ask yourself why you don't. That's the same reason why you shouldn't let your animals drink from it either.

What if she should slip one day, for any reason (unexpected outdoor noise), and then because the bowl's sides are wet, and she's headfirst, can't get herself righted and out of it? I never let mine in the bathrms (without the lids being down) if we're not around at the time.

I don't think a cat getting stuck in a toilet is much of a concern. My older cat has taught my kitten how to open the toilet now to get a drink. They always have fresh water and they don't do it very often. I think it's just a change for them or maybe it's the cold water they like. It's rather funny to walk into the bathroom and see a butt and tail hanging out from under the toilet seat.

All our toilets are low flow anyway so there's not much water in the bowl which seems to delight our older cat. She likes them better than the old regular toilets because there's more room for her and less water. She also likes to clean up the shower or tub after we're done. This has lead to as making sure the tub and shower are well rinsed before we get out.
