Last night, St. Louis got slammed by major storms. There were a few tornados reported, LOTS of trees down and worse of all over 500,000 people are without power today. The highs today are going to be over 100 degrees
I feel soooo sorry for all the elderly people
its just going to be miserable all around. So if you can please send some goodthoughts/vibes/prayers for our area

I will be sure to send some (((vibes))) over...

We got some of those storms yesterday...and it's so terrible that all of sudden the tornado can take your home. I have been through some bad tornados before and I couldn't imagine having to rebuild my home.

I called my best friend last night about 9pm to wish her a happy birthday and she told me about the storms and that they were out of power. (She lives near the botanical garden.)

Hope all our St.Louis folks fared well!

Thank you all

I was one of the lucky ones- our power did'nt go out-thank the Lord!
Traffic was a nightmare!!!!!!!! Almost all the stop-lights are out, there are trees and enormous branches everywhere. A guy at work here said his neighbor caught a tornado on film, and he lives at S Grand and louisiana if anyone is familiar with the area. The Botanical Gardens area was hit pretty hard as well. Alot of big giants fell over there. The worse will come this afternoon when the temps go back over 100. So many people will have no air, no fans no anything to help them beat the heat. Some people don't even have water, there is a boil order in effect for a big chunk of the area. But if they don't have power and they have ana electric stove, how are they going to bol it? People can't even go buy ice, water etc.. because soo many stores are without power.
Even WORSE- they are calling for even more dangerous storms tonight
I can only pray they are'nt near the magnitude these were.

Again, thank you all SOOO much for keeping us in your thoughts.

P.S. > I took some pics of the damage last night- I am going to see if my Mom will e-mail them to me.

Yeah, we got nailed last night. We are about 15 minutes south of the city. We lost power for about 5 hours or so. No trees down in our yard but some of the neighbors weren't so lucky (at least, their trees weren't.) My parents are at 270 and Telegraph and they still don't have power. Lucy, our fearless little girl
, hid all night during the storm. The other two didn't mind so much, though the loud thunder did spook Daisy a couple of times. I really hope there aren't anymore tonight. I think there is only a 30% chance for storms, so maybe we'll get lucky.

Lots of positive vibes and prayers are on the way for everyone in the St. Louis area.

Since you mentioned the elderly, I just wanted to say I work at a nursing home and I know that many times the elderly don't move around much and therefore, they often don't feel warm enough. And even when the temperature is around 100 degrees, they refuse to tolerate moving air, use fans, air-conditioners or even have the windows open because it will make them feel too cold (they think). So if you have any elderly relatives or neighbors who might be this way, please check on them.

My prayers are with everyone in the hardest hit areas, hopefully they are able to restore power to everyone soon!

There has been some wild weather north of the border too, and the cottage country of Ontario including North Bay has had major power outages as well, hopefully mother nature brings everyone a much calmer weekend.

I'm sending HUGE, HUGE prayers and vibes to the St. Louis area. My brother, sister-in-law, and niece live in St. Charles...and I haven't been able to get in touch with them to see if they're OK.

St. Louis is definitely in my prayers! I hope they return power to the city soon and things get better for everyone. I went through a very similar situation a few years ago in Memphis during our "Hurrican Elvis." We were without power for almost 3 weeks and the lines at the gas stations were over 2 hours long....So i definitely understand. I hope everyone makes it out ok and can get back to their normal lives as soon as possible.

OMG, that sounds horrible......my prayers are with you, goosehazel and everyone in St.Louis.
I went through something like that last October when Hurricane Wilma hit South Florida, but at least we had FEMA to give us ice. I went two weeks without power and I didn't have a generator. (I have one now)

People can use their BBQ grill to boil the water. That's what people here in South Florida do when we have no power and we have to boil the water.

Thank you guys

Theres pretty much no difference today
almost everyone is still without power. The national guard has been sent in to help us
they are pasing out water, dry ice etc..... They have called in a LOT of help from surrounding counties and states, theres just soo much damage and debris
they can't even get to the power lines because of all the mess. On the good side, the temp is supposed to break today-the highs are only going to be in the 80's- so it won't be as miserablr as yesterday. The electric company said that it might take until sunday before they can fully restore power.

I forgot to get the pics- but there are some good ones here
