I have read the link about tlabor and delivery and want to ask a couple of questions "just in case". My cat is young and was abandoned by her mother as a baby so she has nothing to go by....

It states to 'break the sac over the kitten if the mother doesn't do it'--so is that done by hand or needs to be cut?

What if she doesn't chew the cord? Do we tie it and cut it? If so, how close to the body?

Do we leave the firts kitten(s) with her while she is still in labor? Or should they be removed until she is done giving birth to all the kittens?
Thanks! Can you tell I am nervouis about this???

I had to do all of that so i'll tell you what i did but i dont know if it is right or not. When Habusaki came out Kitty didnt break her sack. she was the second one out so maybe she was just tired or something. any wyas. i just kinda rubbed on her mouth and tries to break the sack with my fingernails. if you do have to break the sack make sure you break the bouth part first. after i did the mouth on Habuski Kitty took care of the rest.

Kitty also didnt chew either cord so i had sterilized scissors and floss ready. i tied it off about an inch above their belly buttons and cut there.

And about movinvg the kittens... i'm not sure about that one.

hoped that helped a little. ayone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

I would think the kittens would remain with her while she is in labor. Unless there is a reason to seperate out the babies...momma knows best.

when icis had hers. she was great for the first two, but once she went into hard labor,s he forgot the 2 and tried to roll on them and sit on them. so i removed them till she had #3, then let them all nurse, then the same for #4. for 3 she chewed the cord to long ( 3+inches) so i cut and tied it. by number 4, she was in labor for 10+hours, so she was so tired she had it then left it. So i broke the sac and cut the cord. then she cleaned it and fed all.
