I have a 3 month old kitten, and something new has formed over the past 2 days. It is a completely indoor cat, but originally I believe was born outdoors and brought indoors after they were born, and I have had her for about a month and have never let her go outside.

Anyways, below her eye towards her nose, it looks like a scab of some sort has formed. My friend said this is from a worm and she needs to get dewormed, but I wanted to know what you guys think it may be.

Additionally, another strange thing I noticed on my other kitten that is near the same age, is he has random small patches of hair missing around his leg. This may be from the cats fighting, but I doubt it is from that, could this also be from a worm?

Anyways, I'm still new to owning a cat, and would like any advice possible
thanks

It could possibly be ringworm which is NOT a worm in fact, but is a fungal infection. This can be passed from cat to cat and between humans and cats. You will need to take the cats to the vet to have this checked on and get proper medical treatment.

Is there a way you can take a picture of it and share it with us? My Tigger has 4 strange scabs, one just below her left eye. I just came from the vet the other day. Here's a pic (this was when the wound was new/fresh, now it is dark red and scabbed over):

Is it anything like that, or is it different?

Johnny - we would need to actually see your cat and even then none of us are qualified to diagnose your cat. You really need to get her to a vet to evaluate the sore. It may be an abscess which can be very serious. Please, instead of waiting for someone to take guesses at what MIGHT be wrong with your kitty, just take her to a vet and have them check her out.

Even posting pictures as the poster above recommended isn't going to help - I repeat, none of us are qualified to diagnose your cat.

I'm sorry
I didn't say or mean to imply that we could diagnose by seeing pictures. I've gotten some really great recommendations by doing this. It helps me then to research and go to the vet with a little bit of knowledge and lots of questions, having researched in advance (I'm an information-aholic). Otherwise I walk in clueless without the right questions to ask and I can't be an active participant in the process.

No problem, but I think you have to take this kitty in sooner rather than later. Waiting to take a kitty to a vet can sometimes make a huge difference between manageable vet bills and expensive vet bills.

My cat above (along with my other cat) were at the vet the other day and I came home with $1500 in estimates for treatments... biopsies were recommended for both. We knew we had a problem with Tigger but had no idea we have a problem with Callie - extremely inflamed gums and she's only 15 months old (I talked about this and provided the detailed vet estimate $ in one of the tooth brushing or dental threads). We are not a happy household right now. *bangs head against the wall*

I think you should get a second opinion from another vet. That sure sounds like a lot of money.

I agree with Yosemite, that sure does sound like a lot of money!

My Nugie had nine teeth extracted about a year and a half ago now I think. My total bill came to somewhere around $115.00 to $130.00. It's been so long now I can't remember the exact amount.

Of course I am not comparing my situation with yours, but I too think a second opinion would be a good idea.
