Hope this doesn't get too long

Anyways,
On sat I noticed my husband's face was a little puffy. All day long it looked like he had just woke up. His eyes were puffy and so were his cheeks. Then Sunday when he woke up it was all out swollen. He has TMJ in his left jaw and when it flares up it's only swollen on the left so we know it was that because it was his whole face. Yesterday when he was at work he said his joints were a little stiff and swollen but kept working (he's a roofer).
Then today he was on a scaffold about 30 feet in the air and started to feel a little funny. Even his foreman looked at him and told him to get down and get out of the sun. He said he got a real salty taste in his mouth and his tongue went a little numb. He also felt a little woozy and his eyes are very blood shot now. He has insurance but feels he doesn't have to go to the Dr. (typical man right?) I am extremly worried about him because if he were to pass out while on a roof he could get seriously injured or even killed with a fall at that height. I was thinking he was on the verge of a heat stroke or heat exhaustion... possibly sun posioning. Can anyone help with some info to convince him that this is NOT normal and he needs to go to the Dr or find another Job? I am seriously concerned about this and he's being a stubborn man
... I have looked on the internet and haven't the found anything....

Thanks everyone in advance!

You need to take him to a doctor as soon as possible. I don't know what these symptoms are, but it sounds like it could be serious.

As for the men not going to the doctor, I know the feeling. My husband has been near bleeding to death and has said "Oh, I'm going to be alright." Usually he will pass out, and then he doesn't have a choice.

Sounds like mine too... I tell him his last words will be "I got this" and that I am going to put that on his headstone

Last month he got bit by a brown recluse spider and it took 5 guys at work to convince him that 1. Your arm is NOT supposed to be swollen 2. Your muscles aren't supposed to be rock hard when not flexed and 3. That hole in your arm is NOT natural....what a hardhead

My dad used to be a paramedic and it is baffling him. He says that he 1000% NEEDS to go to the doctor. Also, if he wasn't sweating while on the roof he needs to go to the hospital IMMEDIATELY. My dad said that no matter what he needs to go to the doctor. Obviously it isn't good that he is getting dizzy while on a roof. Please try to make him go. You are in my prayers and keep us updated!

PS Dad says that if he has allergies, it sounds like an allergic reaction. It has all the classic symptoms of anaphalaxis. Maybe a spider bite or bee sting? Swelling doesn't HAVE to be a the site either(like the face). This could cause MAJOR heart problems and his throat could swell shut. Tell him THAT and I would hope he goes then

We thought that too. I went over him with a fine tooth comb when he was getting out of the shower and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. He hasn't eating anything unusual. I just got off the phone with my dad who has done A/C for 43 yrs. He's on roofs all the time and in attics. Before I even mentioned him not sweating he asked about it. I am almost positive he's on the verge of a heat stroke. His skin is really dried out... very ashy. I think he's dehydrated also. He's not in a very good mood either.. Very cranky and uncomfortable. He's drinking a ton of water right now and I am going to get him some salt tablets. He sweats like a horse (smells like one too sometimes
) His hats, shirts and even shorts have white salt lines on them where he sweats it out. I'm worried to death but he's the type that unless something serious happens he won't go to the Dr. I can't convince him to go to the ER even with cake and he LOVES food... ( bought him a cake tonight actually
).. Why are men so stubborn?

What upsets me off is he keeps saying "I'll be ok as long as I drink enough water"

I just KNOW I'm going to get a call that he's fallen off a roof or something tomorrow....
Also today I completed my training for my new job and will be going full time from 8:00-4:30pm and I know I won't be able to concentrate because of my anxiety about his well being. He doesn't have a cell phone of his own so I can't call him to see if he's ok. I have #'s of other guys he works with but since they are on different crews at different jobsites everyday, I never know which guy to call....
He's such a brat... it's like having another kid!

I agree. I don't even know how to bribe him. He really does need medical attention immediately. I really don't know why men are like this. It took Trav a week to go to the doctor for hives
He waited until the itching was UNBEARABLE and not because it was spreading....UGH! Men

I think he should go also, It sounds like it could be a blood sugar problem. Nothing like those symptons should be ignored, getting dizzy I would say he needs to go..

No I don't think its blood sugar. Dad is diabetic and I'm hypoglycemic and we are baffled. Just my opinion.

I keep telling him I am going to trade him in for another cat.
At least the kitties actually pee IN the litter box, not on the edge or around it
and they don't have a choice to go to the DR or not

Does he drink straight water go does he drink a gatorade type of drink. I to work outside for a living and while the temps might not get as hot in WI I had heat exhaustion in June already. My key is that I stop sweating. If you are working in full sun add about 15 degrees to the outside temp. Does he wear a hat (and not a baseball hat!!) Light colored shirt??? sunglasses??
I too would recommend a drs visit as the swelling doesn't sound right.
Sunstroke a person's skin will be flushed dry and hot if the color turns grayish thats a really bad sign.
Have you taken his temperature??? If above normal you should take measures to reduce it.
Heat cramps-if he sweat ALOT he should be taking salt tablets or a quick drink of salt solution 1 tsp in 1 qt cool water.
I don't know if the term Sun poisoning is still accurate or not as I'm not sure of symptoms.
Good luck getting him to a doctor!!

He wears a baseball hat, white tshirts without the sleeves... won't wear sunglasses..He drinks both water and gatorade... I am going to get him some salt tablets tomorrow.. he takes multivitimans and also potassium tablets.. I haven't taken his temp yet... didn't think about that..His skin isn't gray.. it's just dried out... you barely scratch it and it's turns white (does that make sense?)
