What happened to my gray tom. His name was Smokey. He was with us for ten years, and still very healthy when he just disappeared. We never saw him again. This was about 25 years ago, but I have never gotten over it. I hope if someone stole him, they took care of him, he was a wonderful cat.

tigger2, You will never forget Smokey; he was an important part of your life, and will always occupy a place in your heart. Cats often seek seclusion when they are ill. Perhaps he was not well. Or he may have wandered to a different neighborhood where someone took him in, thinking he needed a home. Either way, thinking of Smokey will always bring happy memories and tug at your heart. He was part of your family. He must have been very special or you would not have written this.

Yes he was very important. I grew up with him. He was a kitten when I was about 5 and Daddy brought him home to catch mice. He did his job well, and was proud to show anyone that was near! But, we never had him neutered, and so he loved the outdoors. Then we moved when I was 15 and after about 2 years of living in the same place, he just never came home. I never found him on the side of the road, or in a ditch, so I am sure he didn't get hit. He just left.

Sorry to cry on your shoulder, I just needed to tell someone. Thank you.

tigger2, That's what we're here for, to help each other. I don't think Tigger left because he wasn't happy there. If he was trying to go back to his old house he would have left much sooner. It will always be a mystery, but let's think the best--that you'll see him again!

Tigger2 - I think now knowing is the hardest. There is no closure that way. I am sorry that this happened to you and that you are still feeling the pain of his loss so many years later. Your babe will be waiting at the Bridge for you and will have quite a tale to tell you about where he went! I hope that I can be there to hear his story with you.

For al the wonderful support. I have talked to others about smokey, but they seem to think I am crazy for mourning a cat for so many years. I am sure I will see him again, and I can admit that he is probably happier now with all the room to play. I look forward to the time I can run with him in the open fields.

Tigger,

I have had two cats that suddenly vanished on me. All I can hope is that someone found them and wanted them for pets. Scatter and Callie will forever be in my heart and on my mind. The worst part for me comes from not knowing. Scatter was 4 and Callie was 10 when they vanished. I just want you to know that I understand your posting and you are not alone.
