Okay- my new kitty comes home on Friday.

I was at the Vet today with my resident cat Sebastian who is 2. While we were getting him taken care I asked if he had any suggestions on how to maek introductions easier and how long to seperate etc.

He told me not to seperate them and just watch them and if either they will learn to like each other or they won't.

Anyone elses vet suggest this?

He also said the kitten will drive Sebastian nuts but all the advice and opinions I have read on this site suggest otherwise and that he is more likely to accept a kitten.

Obviously I am going to seperate them and follow the advice from people on this site who have done successful intros but his kitten comment got me a little worried.

Sebastian is still playful so has anyone else put a kitten with a 2 year and been fine? I can see him getting irritated sometimes like any big brother would but not to the extent where he won;t like him.

Thanks!

That Vet's advice is just NUTS!

Scent is important for Sebastian. Rub Sebastian all over with a cloth. Before you bring the kitten in, rub the kitten all over with the scent of Sebastian - I know this will help - it did with mine.

I'm having my own issues, but I can't believe the vet told you such stuff, MAN!

Check out this thread/forum
http://www.thecatsite.com/Behavior/4...cing-Cats.html

It's in the behavior forum, under the thread:

Have a Behavior Problem- Look here first!.

then, the Topic Title is:
"I'd like you to Meet... - Introducing Cats"

I'm sorry that I don't have the knowledge as to how to paste the direct link, I think that the http:.... above might get you there???
Maybe a Mentor will see this, and help

Thank you for the info Gloria

How are your kitties doing? I see you posted a question about them.

It sounds to me like he is just showing his dominance role and playing with them. But I have no experience with this so hopefully someone more experienced will have some input.

Glad I could help a little -- I'm interested in your progress with your two.

The kids are doing great, they're so cute! I'm just very anxious for everyone to get along, and happy, and settled in = I'm sure I'll get some help. I agree that KiKi is probably showing the kids whose boss, but since I don't know what that looks like, I'm not sure, either. Thanks for inquiring about them.
