My cat had 5 kittens about 5 days ago (unfortunitly the first one died at birth) however the other 4 are underneath my mothers bed and have been there since then. Thier eyes and ears usually open between 6 and 14 days. If they are still shut, daily wipes with a warm cloth will help. As far as handeling. Some moms are different. It is usually best with moms and kittens to isolate them in just one room. I dont have a bed in the nursery, so it helps. You can handle them very carefully from the day they are born assuming mom does not try and take a hand off. Just do not pick the kittens up and walk off with them. Sit near mom while holding and petting.
