I have a 2 year old spayed female Himalayan who's exhibited chronic urinary problems throughout her life. As a kitten she was diagnosed with urinary crystals, and has been on a strict diet of CD or SD ever since (to eliminate and prevent them, respectively). However, throughout her life she has episodes where she'll urinate on carpets instead of in her litter. Each time she's been to the vet, they've found no trace of infection or crystals, however they've put her on antibiotics and the episode subsided for weeks or months at a time.

Just a couple days ago, she had another episode, this time accompanied by a very high fever (105). She's currently in the veterinary hospital for observation and had an ultrasound for suspected bladder stones - however the ultrasound turned up nothing, and her CBC came back completely normal with no sign of infection.

My vet is very confused and is having a specialist come in to look over the ultrasound again - the main concern is bringing her fever down right now.

Has anyone experience this before or have any idea what it could be?

Thanks,
Tim

Besides the CBC, did they also perform a blood profile to check organ functions?

We have an FIV kitty that has intermittent high fevers 104-106 and she uses Metacam oral when the spike in temp happens and it works well for her, but that is a totally different case than your kitty. Have they tried different antibiotics, or just stuck with one?

It will be interesting to see what the specialist finds. Bladder stones are tricky to find with an ultrasound. Ultrasound is also something that takes a lot of skill and knowledge, not just having the machine around.

Hopefully, they find something out soon for her.

Good luck.
