My little girl Festus is simply ROTTEN! We have been keeping the windows open due to the extreme heat. Once, 2 years ago, as a kitten, Festie got outside overnight. I believe it was through the window in ds's room. Recently, dh said he found her outside the same window, having escaped through an open screen. Yet I knew I had checked that the screen was latched.
Tonight, I heard a loud scratching noise in the same window. The room was dark so it was hard to see...but I found Festus halfway out the window! She may have even jumped outside and come back in. She apparently had just clawed at the latch, and unhooked it so she could go outside!
In case you don't know, Festus was born in my house to a foster kitty, and has spent her ENTIRE life inside, except her one escape as a kitten. While I live in the country, and have outside cats, and consider my yard to be fairly safe, it is not an option for Festus!

I have latched the screen, and closed the window enough that even without the screen, the cats won't be able to get outside! Thank goodness the other screens are nailed shut!
