It is high protein high fat and no grain.... The good part is these are all things that mimic kittys natural diet ... the down side in the dry is the lack of moisture .. the canned is another story ... It is great food but only about 50% cats do well...

Innova EVO is the closest you're going to come to the natural diet of a carnivore in a kibble. High protein, low carb, no grain. I do think hands down that it's the best kibble money can buy. I still feel however that it's important to mix canned food in with any kibble if you can, as kibble alone is still very taxing for them to process since it's so dry.

It's as close as you can get to feeding a raw diet [at least what I've heard.]

My main concerns are that I've read good and bad... people who loved it, and then people who loved it until their dogs/cats couldn't handle the protein and got wickedly sick.

The price and the possible side affects are what stop me from buying it. It's cheaper for me to feed raw/kibble combined than to buy the Innova EVO.

I just want to warn people before they try the EVO cat and kitten...I used to buy it for my ferrets and they became VERY sick and lost a lot of weight. I had to take them to the vet and after a food change, etc they were back to normal (got bad kidney issues...all three of them!)...it also was different from bag to bag. Now I really don't understand why because I feed EVO dog to my puppy and he does great on it and it is very consistent from bag to bag.

I still feed my cat the EVO canned, but I just had a bad experience with the dry. It also bothers me that it has a VERY high ash content...most cats don't drink enough anyways so they would have to drink double the normal amount just to flush out all that left-over mineral content. Another thing is that Natura (makers of EVO) didn't do feeding tests with the cat EVO, only the dog. When I emailed them, they said it was because they just "assumed" that cats would do well on it since they were obligate carnivores....that made me uneasy.

Just thought I'd let you know that they are coming out with an EVO that is specially formulated for Ferrets. Maybe the cat one just wasn't right, perhaps other ferrets were having this problem? I don't know the reasoning behind it, but it should be out in a few weeks!

Evo has a very high ash content (nearly 10%), high calcium/phosphorous, low levels of omega 3 (4 to .4 omega 6 to 3 ratio), and is very high in calories. I used to feed it to my cats, but since they're older, it made me nervous. I've since switched to serengeti cat food which is similar in the no grain content, but is far lower in the bad things, and higher in omega 3's (3.4 to 1.2 6 to 3 ratio)

Since my cat is sick already I canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t risk giving him something that could make him worst, he has seizures but they are under control. So I could just forget about EVO.

Which of these dry foods that he likes is better? Natural Balance dry, California Natural Chicken and Rice dry, and California Natural Herring and Sweet Potato dry. Which is better and which is second best? i don't know how to calculate the ash.

All three are good foods. I personally like California Natural Chicken and Rice because it is so simple, only five ingredients. I used to feed it until I decided to try grain free for one of my cats that has chronic episodes of digestive problems. Between those three though I think it would just be a matter of personal choice and considering things like price and availability.

All four of mine took to it right away, pawing out bits of their old food I had mixed it with and few stomach probles (except for Bumper who gets sick with everything but even he took only a week to get used to it)
Mine have been losing weight nicely and have much better coats on Evo compared to the California Natural / Chicken Soup mixture I was feeding them.
