We only had 2 vets...so we really couldn't take more....but that is 31 cats/kittens that cannot reproduce.

That's a lot of vets. Is it always the same ones or do you have different ones in the area that take turns helping out? What is the average number of cats done in 1 day?

I used to go to Petworth to get my cats sprayed and neutered. That one vet did an amazing job all by himself.

Vets are volunteers..so we can get some that show up every month..and others come once in a blue moon..but we are greatful for all of them.

Starting in March 06...the clinic narrowed it's focus to only one county in Virginia: Fairfax County. Since then we have fixed: Mar-06: 51 April-06: 52 May-06: 50 June-06: 32 July-6: 31...I was speaking to one of the Alley Cat Allies reps and she would like for all the trappers to help with trapping ONE colony for the clinic instead of getting 3 from one colony, 2 from another. I offered to help out.

Of course you did!

Katie - I'm always impressed with the work you guys do. It's hard work and I just really wanted to thank you for being out there doing what you do. The numbers are always so mind-blowing. I wave between being excited for how great you guys did - and being depressed at how many there are.

You and people like you are a godsend.

Thanks Laurie....it does seem like such a drop in the bucket when you think of all the need. I do hope we can combine forces because it will make a larger impact for the future. The reason we narrowed our focus was to hopefully get the county to agree to promote TNR. Then we could move to the next county and so forth.

I truly love volunteering at the clinic...it's the one thing that I do that makes me feel that I am truly making a difference in the numbers.

Katie, I just realized that you are in Virginia. I don't know if this info is worthwhile to you or not but my uncle is a vet in I think Shady Grove, MD. He lives in Fairfax so it has to be pretty close. I think his animal hospital is called Petropolis. His name is Michael Bassett. I don't know if you want to try and contact him to get some more "free" services.

FYI...He and I haven't spoken in awhile...long story but he really is a great vet and person.
