My cat had kittens about a week and a half ago and now she has started to move them all over the house I was trying to keep her in our half bath with her food and litter box but she just keeps crying so I let her out and when I am not looking she keeps moving them so today I let her move them to where ever she wanted to and she moved them behind the couch so i put her birthing box back there with her. She seems to like it for right now I am just worried that they will be moved again and I don't want to step on them in the morning when I get up. So should I put them back in the bathroom and move the litter box and food out or should I leave her where she is.. My house us just so big that I am scared she is going to move them to a part of the house were I will not be able to find them.

Maybe she would be happier in a spare bedroom with the kittens. She does need to be confined. We have had several members here who had kittens get stepped on, so it can happen. Or if she is moving them, she may leave one behind accidentally.

That really does sound best. I mean if where ever it is that she really wants to go is unsafe then you choose for her and confine her to a spare bedroom, or spare room with all the amenities whether she likes it or not because the truth of the matter is if she leaves behind a kit, or one strays away for too long it is very dangerous, esp. if your house has cold spots where the baby cant stay warm.

She definately needs to be confined...I understand she is crying....but better for her and the kittens to be in one location where she cannot put them in an unsafe place. Do you have a slightly larger room that is not used that she could be placed with her kittens/food/litter?? That may be a comprimise.

That is why I feel it's so important to have a very large cage or confine the cat to one room no matter how much she wants out. And when you let her out, you supervise her and don't let her carry kittens out of the room.

I never had a problem with mother's moving kittens around the house. They stayed in a large cage till the kits were a few weeks old and then everyone got supervised when out of the room.

Pluse I kept a nice sheet around most of the cage for privacy - all my females were good mothers and quite comfortable with things.
