I think.

Never having had a pregnant queen before, it's hard for me to judge. She's been unusually cuddly and clingy all day today, following me around and crying at me. Then tonight after supper she started breathing pretty fast, sometimes outright panting. Since then, she's had several unsuccessful trips to the litter pan and is still pacing. She keeps trying to get under my bed, but I've blocked it all off. I've set up a box in my closet with shredded newspaper and two of my old shirts (no longer wanted) in it and she seems to keep going back into it to dig around. Aside from that she seems to be making rounds from the middle of the floor, to the bed to check if it's unblocked yet, back to the closet, to the litter box, repeat.

There's a little bit of reddish-pinkish glop coming out of her vagina (sorta like a clot when you have your period only not nearly as bloody). And she's grooming her belly a good deal. She's also purring alot (which is not something she does normally, she's fairly reserved).

So... labor? How long before I can expect to see some kittens?

Hi,

Hows it going?

Im no expert but my cat Boo had her first baby within an hour of having the show. It definately sounds like your kitty is close. Boo would pant on and off for a few hours before the birth. Can you see her contracting at all?

Boo breathed open mouthed too and was constantly stretching like she had just woken up. She was incredibly restless and wanted me by her side at all times.

I know cats purr when they are in pain too so that could be a good sign.

Hope all is well, cant wait to hear update.

Rose...it does sound like it is close....I would get her set up in the room where you have set up her nesting box and food/litter to ensure that she doesn't have the kittens in an unsafe location. Remember...now is the time to keep her confined indoors only and away from intact males until she has weaned her kittens and is spayed.

Morning now and still nothing. She's still being clingy and pacing from her nesting box to ont top of my bed, spending about fifteens minutes in each location before moving again. (She'd prolly stay in her box if I sat in the closet with her, but I can't sit in there for long without my legs falling asleep.)

Right now she's winding about my legs, still meowing a lot. I don't have a thermometer to take her temp with, so I have no idea if her temp has dropped.

She's not straining at all that I can tell. (What exactly entails straining in a cat?)

when she lays down on her side, and looks to be stretching, thats straining to push, or at least how Icis looked when she did it,lol. Ice was that way too, talking alot, and wrapping herself around me at every chance.

do you know how far along she is in the pregnancy ( in days) ?

As far as I can tell, her contractions are about 2 minutes apart. (What that means for cats, I have no idea.) I don't know how far along she is since we found her wandering in our backyard on Mother's Day. She hasn't been exposed to any unaltered male cats since then, so she had to have been mated earlier that May 14th. I think she's right on track though because we started feeling the kittens move about two weeks ago, maybe a little more.

I've got dental floss, alcohol, a pair of surgeon's scissors, a log book, pencil, and a scale ready for when they come. She seems to just want to be pet while she's in her box. If I leave the closet (where the box is located) she follows me and cries.

I'll let everyone know when we have kittens!

It's not unusual for early labor to continue for a long time, it sounds like you will have kittens very very soon. Just let momma cat deal with them, they usually require no assistance, but if they do it sounds like you're ready

Two kittens so far! No pictures yet because I don't think Mom would appreciate a flash right now. The first one is an orange tabby and weighed 94 grams, the second is lighter, cream maybe and weighs 100 grams. Still a few more to go!

Here's a few pics to start...

Marigold as of last night, showing off her big belly.

First two kittens fighting over a nipple and showing how different their coats are....

Finally decided who got what nipple...

The cream one (second born)...

More pics as we get more babies!

Yeah Momma Kitty! I was going to say so very close, but then you already know that huh,
Cool I can't wait, but maybe I can because I don't have all that stuff I don't even know how in the world to tell if she is contracting. I don't have a scale. What kind of scale do I need! Ooh Lord! All I need is an excuse to shop for them right now,

Congrats new mommy keep us posted!

Have a third baby now! A little smaller than the others, weighing 86 grams, but feisty. This one seems to be a cream color too.

Not sure if she's done yet or if there's another one in there. How can I tell? There was 20 minutes between the first and second kittens. Then an hour between the second and third. She hasn't needed any help at all, ate the placentas and chewed the cord herself. The kittens have been very strong so far and went for nursing right away. Marigold doesn't seem distress, just tired and is still panting.

Mom suckling the three babies

Three

In order ; Two, One, and Three

you can tell if there is another by placing your hands on either side of her belly and gently pressing. If you feel movement, there is another! Icis went 10 hours from the first baby to the last. by the time the last came out, she was to tired to even clean ot break the sac, so i did, tied off the cord , cut it, then she cleaned him.

Total is now four! Got another red male. (So far we have two red males, one male cream, and one female cream.)

The placenta for the fourth hasn't come out yet, but I don't think she's done. I think theres one more kitten inside of her yet.
