It's my first time on this forum so I'm not sure if I'm asking a repeat question but here goes:

My cat Max (
black short hair,) sheds an enormous amount and I've been combing with a standard brush and comb. (I'm constantly vacuuming the house with all the hair around).

Has anyone found a great brush for their cats. I've been reading various reviews about brushes for shedding problems, but am not sure which one to try.

Thanks

ZOOM GROOM

IF he is long haired or he lets you really brush him then Shed Ender. But Zoom Groom is amazing and cheaper then oterh fancy brushes.

It isn't even a brush, just a hunk of plasticy rubbery stuff with pieces sticking out. Hard to explain but it works well and I know a lot of people here will recommend it.

I bought a brush similar to the one at this link, from my vet's office. It actually gets to the undercoat where the hair is being shed from. I got nearly 2 cups of hair off of my older cat with one brushing, and I noticed a huge difference in the amount of hair being left on the furniture now. It was only about $5 or $6.

I have three of them, a Zoom Groom, a regular bristle brush, and a wire slicker.

The bristle brush doesn't do anything but make her coat look a little shinier. The wire slicker makes Zissou hate me, and works okay but not well (It looks like the one natalie_ca posted).

The Zoom Groom is ridiculously amazing. I swear, I could brush her every day and get enough hair for a sweater off there. So yea, I definitely recommend that, unless you have a very long haired cat and need a real comb also to keep her from matting. For tabbies and medium-hairs or short-hairs, etc, you really don't need anything else.

I just purchased the Shed Ender and it is great.
I got so much hair off Max that I can make another cat out of it. One issue, the comb it so small that you need to be very patient and let your cat have some "down time" before you are all finished. Regarding being finished, it looks as though the hair will never stop coming out.

I hope he has some hair left after I'm done.

Those are great brushes for cats. Yes the comb part is really small. That is why I said I found it to be better on longhaired cats, not sure why but it is amazing on my Himalayan. Did you say if yours is long or short haired?

Zoom Groom is even better I think for short haired cats. You run the thing over the cats back several times and at first the fur will not stick to the Zoom Groom but just sort of stay where your brush strokes stop. Then eventually you run it over that lingering hair and it picks it right up. The trick is, don't stop and pick the hair off the brush. Just keep at it and leave the hair on until the end, even when doing multiple cats. That is how it works, the hair off the cat clumps together with the hair already on the brush and it sticks.

I would pick one up too, they are amazing but some people don't use them right.

I got mine at Petsmart. Be careful with it, I have to hide mine because Scratch will come up to me with it in his mouth with the look like "Please brush me!"
