I've had my calico Lucy for years.. about, what, nine? She always uses the litterbox and everything, but just a little while ago, I saw her pee on the floor right outside the box. There isn't anything wrong with it.. it's clean, so I don't understand why she did that all of a sudden. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm kind of confused now..

when a cat does something out of the ordinary, like pee outside the box, they could be telling you that they're not feeling well. take her to the vet. just to be sure. my Bear started messing outside the box out of the blue one day. i took him to the vet and it turned out that he had colitis. proper diet and he was good as new.

I never thought about that.. she acts fine, but I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Often peeing outside the box is an indication of a urinary tract infection. Your kitty should see the vet and may need antibiotics.

My Ophelia was peeing outside the box, & after a trip to the vet, it was discovered she has crystlas in her urine. She is now on a Rx diet & antibiotics.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I asked mom what she thought, and she said she might have not wanted to get in because the litter was a little old (we have two boxes, and they use the other one more), and she couldn't get to the other one because maybe a dog was in the way. I told her if she does it again after we clean/change litter, we need to take her to the vet.

Take a black light over your carpeting and you wil know if she has ever done it before. Remeber every little piece of dust will show up but just look for any large spots on the carpeting.
