I have decided giving her up to an animal shealther or somebody to take care of her. I am looking for a job, but i need help right now for her. My parents are concern about the pay and are scared if they will be charged for not getting help right away. for animal cruelty. The quickest way i know is animal shealter and give her up. Getting oney from friends i feel ashamed.

April, read the original post. It had already been "days" when she began posting about it.

You will be doing the right thing making sure she gets care. At this point, whatever needs done for her needs done today. I don't know why it's taken you this long, but at least you're doing it now. Some animal hospitals might not be seeing patients on Sunday, but there is one somewhere near you that is open, but it will be expensive.

Your parents are right to realize that this cat not having been to a vet is animal cruelty, because it is. But, they won't be charged with anything as long as the cat gets help. It's not your fault that you can't get the money, but you really need to take care of the cat today. I know it will be very hard to give her up, you obviously love her, but it is the best thing for her. Do not take her to the pound. Take her to a no-kill shelter. Don't call first either. Take the cat there, explain that she has been in severe pain for days and that your parents won't pay for her to go to the vet. If they are overcrowded (which is likely) go on to the next one. Do not go to any pounds because they will likely put her to sleep. If you need help finding one tell us your zip code.

If your parents cannot afford a payment plan from a vet, they are not going to be able to afford one for a vet hospital, which is more expensive.

You need to find a no-kill shelter today and take her there. Today. Not tommorow.

So any news yet? Did you get to the vet. Most people understand not being able to take a animal right away but this could be considered abuse if its not treated soon it needs to see a vet.

Kipper, it is important to at least skim through the posts in a thread. They got a loan from a relative and the cat should be at the vet now...

I'm so glad you've finally gotten your cat the help she deserves. She'll be in my thoughts hoping that the vet can fix it!

I finally took my kitty to the vet. There is going to be money troubles with my family, but i'm happy she finally got to the vet. My kitty has to wear an E collar for 2 weeks. then come back to the vet. they said she's probably been bit and theres in infection. So i have to get my kitty like medicne for her for now. then have her check up next time. It looks bad when i look at her. i feel bad she has to be like this.

I'm so glad you got your kitty to the vet, and can start her on antibiotics. I'm sorry this is such a hardship for your family, but you've done the right thing. Make sure you follow the vet's directions about the medicine, and please try not to worry. Infected wounds can look terrible, but hopefully the med. will make her feel much, much better in a day or two.

How long have you had this cat? You sounded like you've had her years and she's NEVER seen a vet!?! That's not right - no one should "own" an animal if they cannot affort TO CARE FOR THAT ANIMAL. It's irresponsible and it's inhumane!

If you cannot care for her you need to find her a new home or at the very least, take her to a local rescue or shelter.
I second taking her to a shelter - they won't care if you have money, they care about the welfare of the cat. You can work on a payment plan with them.

Thank you for taking your kitty in to see the vet. Infections, if left untreated, can be deadly to your kitty. You did the right thing. We'll all be sending healing vibes and hugs to you.

I'm so glad to hear Whiskers got to the vet! She is an adorable kitty. If you have any problems pilling her or any other developments, please ask. I would love to hear when she is doing well! I am so glad that you did not need to rehome her.

I really would try to get your parents to consider pet health insurance. Mine was about 10$ a month, and it covers most emergency vet bills after 50$ copay. You have to come up with the money upfront, but then they reimburse you, so it would not strain your finances if Whiskers gets sick again.

I have no money either, and I know this was sort of out of your hands, but everything worked out!

Any idea how it happened?

I have having diffuculty trying to give my kitty her medicine. she keeps spitting it out. it's a small little pill. sometimes it gets stuck in her E-collar. after several tries i finaly got her to take it. i told my mom to take her to the shelther, but she told me they dont take sick or injure cats.. is that true?

No, that's not true. No-kill (and that part is very important) shelters (most of them, everywhere has its own policy) will take sick or injured cats. The one I used for the clinic for mine took a cat who was near death from being hit by a car a did all the surgery and healed him right up. Do not give your cat to any shelter who euthanizes animals for space. A no-kill shelter never kills animals, sometimes with the exception of FIV and FeLV + cats.

Why are you still giving her up even though you've gotten her to the vet? Now that you guys know better, you can start saving up for next time, buy cat insurance, get a credit card just for vet emergencies, etc. If you really feel you cannot afford even routine medical treatments (cats have to have a check-up every year, just like you) then that may be best, although the added stress of the shelter won't help your cat heal as fast if you can keep her until she's all better.

The best way, in my experience, to pill a cat requires two people. One of you holds the cat, firmly but not hurting it, and pushes on both corners of the mouth, just hard enough to force the mouth open (this is a reflex, the cat should not act like it hurts or is in discomfort) and then the other person puts the pill as far back in the throat as possible and then with one quick motion shoves it down, almost like if you touch a hot stove. This is exactly how my vet showed me how to do it.
Another way to do it is to put the pill in the cats mouth, as far back as you can, and then hold her mouth shut and stroke her throat until she swallows. Gently blowing at her face will also cause some cats to swallow.

Good luck!
