I hope i made the right choice. There is a little baby sparrow out side on the ground that cant fly. Its really close to flying doing this like hop flap flap thing. I decided to leave it alone.
The mother and father (i think) are right there in the tree above the baby chirping up a storm. I am hoping that its gonna be ok. T
he problem is that some nieghborhood boys are there watching it and not letting it be. Parents cant get to it cause of them. I asked them to leave it be but u know kids these days. Not sure what the best thing to do is.

I'd march right out there and tell those boys like it is........the parents can't get to the baby if they are bothering the little one.

Right it bothers me when the parents are home and for these kids thats not that often. But they see them doing that and dont care its hard to tell the kids to stop when parents are right there.
When i first came out the had a stick in there hands and i wondered what they were doing till i saw the bird. I told them to leave it alone the parents are right there and if we move away they will come get it they dropped the stick but still following it around. grr.
My heart says go get the bird but then what. It is so close to flying. I think it just needs to be left alone to figure it out.

I hope those kids aren't touching the baby. I'm not completely sure if this is true, but I once heard that human scent will cause wild birds to abandon their young.

I had to do this last night and it broke my heart
We were at my sons baseball game and there was a baby robin that kept going on the field and it finally made it to the street and safely got across, but it just looked so sad. I know it probly was so close to flying.....it just looked so helpless.

According to my husband... the zoo
The parents will continue to feed it on the ground.

I agree - make sure the boys don't bother it.

Yesterday I looked up the "don't touch baby birds" thing and it's a myth.

Just yesterday here at work we found a fledgling that fell out of the nest. Problem was, we couldn't see any birds interested in it, so I took it home last night and brought it back this morning... within 10 minutes it's momma found it and has been feeding it all morning. Turns out it is a goldfinch!
