About an hour ago, the fire alarms went off in the building where I work, along with the recorded announcement that there was an emergency. So, everyone on all eight floors (about 200 people) had to evacuate the building. Turned out to be a false alarm, but what surprised me was everyone's reactions. When the alarm first went off, nobody in my office moved. One lady, who was making a cup of tea in the kitchen, finished what she was doing first. One of the guys finally said, "Oh crap!" and got up from his computer, but it took him a few minutes. Nobody seemed in a big hurry to leave the building. What if it had been a real emergency. My first thought was to grab my purse and get out!
Once everyone was out, we had to stand across the street and wait for the fire department to determine it was safe to go back in. A lot of people were muttering about how annoying it was to have their work interrupted. Personally, I enjoyed seeing the firemen (no women) in all their gear. Kind of cute!
Anyway, looks like that's our excitement for the day!
