We had to be evacuated!

About an hour ago, the fire alarms went off in the building where I work, along with the recorded announcement that there was an emergency. So, everyone on all eight floors (about 200 people) had to evacuate the building. Turned out to be a false alarm, but what surprised me was everyone's reactions. When the alarm first went off, nobody in my office moved. One lady, who was making a cup of tea in the kitchen, finished what she was doing first. One of the guys finally said, "Oh crap!" and got up from his computer, but it took him a few minutes. Nobody seemed in a big hurry to leave the building. What if it had been a real emergency. My first thought was to grab my purse and get out!

Once everyone was out, we had to stand across the street and wait for the fire department to determine it was safe to go back in. A lot of people were muttering about how annoying it was to have their work interrupted. Personally, I enjoyed seeing the firemen (no women) in all their gear. Kind of cute!

Anyway, looks like that's our excitement for the day!

Hmm, that's one dream I haven't had yet - George as a firefighter. I like it!

Seriously, though, I can't believe people weren't moving more quickly and were griping about this. What if had been a real emergency? Maybe I'm overly cautious, but I don't believe in taking chances either.

Goodness! I'm sorta surprised too, like Jazzmyn said, what about 9-11? Glad it turned out to be a false alarm!

I love when there's a fire alarm in the office! (They're always false alarms.) It gives you a break!

Poor Jerry...it's a good thing he has such a good sense of humor or he'd get seriously bent out of shape about the pictures of him that get posted here!

There are 400 people in my office building, and over 300 of them are women. There wouldn't be too much grumbling here if we got to oogle some firemen!

We are required to have fire drills and assign floor captains where I work. Our building contains a number of different companies, often 2-4 different companies per floor.

Hmm.. I must admit to being a little lax about fire alarms too. The first few years at our apartment building, the alarms would always go off for no reason. You get complacent about it. Especially when you know there's not going to be any hot firemen turning up!
