That's what I said....wait until the "adopt one get one free" special in August.
If it's costing $80 thats a good deal by the time you get one for free aand have all it needs done it will be way more. I know I rescued 16 cats in 2 years and had them all vetted with help from some rescue groups but I spent a good bit of my own money because i wanted them to have a better life then living in a parking lot. All but 2 in my siggy are ones from that group. I don't think it matters witch kitty if you had your Heart set on a new baby.Great luck to you, and I'm so sorry you didn't get the one you wanted, You'll find another there's so many that need wonderful homes. I was in Petsmart here last week they must have had 15 kittens and loads of biiger babies, I just can't stand to even look at them makes my Heart ache. Of course my hubby says you hate looking at them then why do you go look when we get there and before we leaveOriginally Posted by h~chan
I'm getting so irritated.. I told mom about the whole Spice thing, and that I'm still approved for another kitty, and that there's one that looks just like her.. but she's all like, "But she's not the one you wanted, so we'll just look for a free one in the paper.." I mean, seriously.. we'll have to get a free one spayed.. and I'm not exactly sure how much that costs.. but you get other things included if you adopt.. and I'd feel better adopting from there and knowing that I'm giving one a good home instead of just getting a free one from someone, where plenty of people are probably getting their kitties. I just hope I'll be able to convince her, because that just seems dumb to me..
I like all cats - and frankly, I would have a huge problem 'picking' a cat. I realise that (almost) everyone has to do it, that you can't just take them all home, or tell the shelter that you'd like them to randomly select one for you, but it seems like (and to the people who've had to do it, it probably feels like) going to an ophanage and saying "I want THAT one."Originally Posted by shengmei
I think it is imperative to not just adopt cats others' wouldn't adopt. You should adopt cats you really love.
I like the idea of seeing which one responds better.. if I go up there tomorrow, I'll see.Originally Posted by GailC
I remember when I got bakker 2 yrs in November. I went to the rescue looking to adopt an older female and came home with this scrawny male tuxedo. The kitten pictures back then and his pictures now-well its had to believe its the same cat!!!
I did like Sugar as it was a better picture-way don't you see which one responds to you better??
There are some older cats.. and they actually get adopted quicker than I thought.. I went back a day after the first visit I ever made, and when we went to see all the animals again, I asked where some of them were, and they had already been adopted.Originally Posted by white cat lover
Are there any older cats at the shelter that need homes? I know the kittens are cute(I must admit, I love them both), but think about it. Older cats are harder to place. Although, this time of year, kittens are getting hard to place, too. Just, don't ignore the older cats. You never know...one of them might be the ones to choose you, too!
Thanks for at least considering them!Originally Posted by h~chan

Trust me, I saw a bunch of older kitties that were really sweet.Originally Posted by white cat lover
Thanks for at least considering them!I know my poor Damita & Chico have been up for adopting since Feb. No one wants them. Poor Captain has been up for adopting since, Feb. too, but he has been in a cage at the shelter. At least Damita & Chico I can foster.
Don't you mean "which kitties would be best to come home with me."
That's a good idea, but there's quite a difference in $80 and $160.. and the two I'm deciding between look a bit different.. one is a little older and is a long-haired kitty, and the other is smaller, and has shorter hair. I really would like to have both though..Originally Posted by white cat lover
If you get two that look exactly alike, then maybe she'll never know the difference!Dad didn't know that I had both Twitch & Ophelia for a few months...then again, he's slightly oblivious!
The kittens aren't, but I think the older cats are. Older cats are $80 to adopt, and kittens are $30 + $50 until they're fixed..Originally Posted by sarahp
Do you mean to say the kittens don't come spayed or neutered already?????
I know the shelter I volunteer for doesn't always alter the cats/dogs before placement. If we did alter all of them, we couldn't afford to stay open. People just don't donate enough & the city doesn't have enough grants...Originally Posted by sarahp
