Hi, I have a question...

does your cat or kitten ever knead your chest and try to suckle your chin when it's hungry???? Or knead ANY part of your body it can and suckle fingers, knuckles, random bits of arm or face??

Our 8 week old Kitten Roxie does this to me. Not to Jordan. Just to me.

I have NO idea why. She and Polly are free fed, and I occasionally give them a small can of wet to share in the evening.

If there is ANY white in the bottom of the kitty bowls, they both whine like they are STARVING until I feed them!!

Just a few minutes ago, I got up in the middle of the night to take an allergy pill and Roxie wouldn't leave me alone. ALL over the KEYBOARD, all over me, mewing, whining, suckling kneading. I kept trying to put her on the floor and she would climb her way back up and start all over!!! I finally had to feed her some wet food and top off the bowls. WHAT THE HECK! It's 1 am!!

Now both my cats are out there eating. I told them this is NOT going to become a standard nighttime ritual! lol

Why does she do this? Even if there is food in the bowl, she will suckle all she can, where ever she can, and then after about 10 min of this, will go to her bowl to eat! Is it because she is so young and weaned too early?

Anyone?

Also, please go look at some new pics I posted in "fur pictures only" It isn't getting many hits, I think because of the title. People aren't aware of the cuteness overload inside. They are pictures of Roxie the Kitten napping yesterday.

Thanks y'all!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Roxie is adorable, Kristin! My girls, both removed from their kitty mom too early have suckled in the manner you describe. I find it absolutely precious. Serenity still does this at times to my chin, lips and earlobes, and she melts my heart. This is not abnormal behavior. When Roxie is climbing all over you, it's because you're her Mommy and she's showing how much she loves you, this is beautiful. Enjoy the extra love and snuggle up all the more with your little baby.

Sierra and Serenity get a bedtime snack of wet food every night or else Serenity will have me up a couple of hours later for a meal.

Let's move this to Behavior.

Oh Gosh. My Peppy suckles on me all the time. Not when hes hungry though. I call it his sucking mood. haha but when I wake up in the morning, its usually to my baby Peppy sucking on my shoulder or my eye-lids. hah the vet says its probably because he misses his mommy and still has the craving to suckle. But my other baby Lucius suckles on my grandmothers ears and face. its quite adorable. So yes indeed my kitties do this too. lol

IMO an eight week old kitten is going to be looking for security and attention above and beyond what an older kitten would. I would try and give as much holding and cuddling and affection as I had time for.
Two of mine came to me at eight weeks and were very much on me for the first two months or so. They are nine months old now and have calmed it down quite a bit. The up side of all this is you will have a fabulous lap kitty as the cat ages- loving human attention is a good thing IMO.

Awww, Roxie is adorable! She looks a bit like my Cindy.

Good luck with the middle of the night feeding not becomeing a ritual. Awhile ago, Cindy wasn't feeling good (because of the meds I had to give her) and wasn't eating for a couple days, just licking some of the gravy. I was worried, so when she jumped up on me in the bed asking for food, I got up and gave her some. Now, almost every night or early morning she jumps up on the bed, walks around me, purrs in my ear, walks on me, kneads on me, or just sits up by my head staring at me until I get up and give her something (usually all of those things). Of course, every time I do give her food, I'm reinforcing the behavior

My cat is over 2 years old and kneads. I think all cats do it, as a natural beahavior. Mine tries to lay on top of the keyboard as I type.

Also tries to head but my chin, but no sucking?
