Wonton is extremely possessive of his cat tree. well, it's not a tree so much as a scratching post with a little shelf to sit on, and a house at the top. i regret buying that kind-its the kind of house with a slanted roof, but he loves to sit on the top of it, so i wish i'd bought the kind with a flat top. and he only actually goes INSIDE his house a few times a week - prefers to sit on top of it and survey his domain. the bottom is a scratching post that he's pulled a lot of the carpeting out of-everyday i have to sweep up carpet. next time i am investing in a GOOD cat tree, with a sisal rope scratching post.

anyway that wasn't my point... my point is, no one is allowed to touch Wonton's "house", as we call it.it doesn't matter if he's sitting on it or not - if you so much as lay a finger on it, he'll come over at bat at your finger and try to bite it. when i clean the base (pick up his toys, sweep up carpet and catnip), he hates it, and always comes and tries to bat at my hands. i always tell him "yes baby, i know its your house". and if he's sitting on it? if you so much as stand too close to it, he'll reach out and bat at you.. sometimes i forget, i'll be standing next to it talking to someone, and i'll casually lean against it-and then i feel the teeth! in my arm, that is.

Wonton's house is HIS house. No one is allowed to touch it.

are your cats the same way?

ps - just wanted to add that this isn't a problem or anything - i actually find it cute most of the time. i was just wondering if everyone else's cats are as possessive of their trees/houses as mine is

As for the name, I love it! I love wonton soup!! haha are you part chinese? because Wontons are a chinese food and i certainly would have never thought about that name to give a cat. all though it is very unique I still love it!!! nope, i'm not chinese (i'm Irish and Native American), but my boyfriend is Chinese.

THis is the story of how Wonton got his name. My boyfriend Rick, and i, had been downtown in San Francisco all day. We live on the outskirts of the city, in the sunset district. We were on our way home, when he said "What do you want to eat tonight?" I said i didn't know, and he said "How about that Wonton soup place by our house?" It's only about five blocks from where we live. I didn't really want it - i wanted something more substantial..but it was what he wanted, so i said "Okay".

We went and parked in front of the resturant, and he went in to order and i stayed in the car. i had the window down because it was warm out, and i heard "meow, meow.. MEOW! MEOW!", and i looked out, and there's this gorgeous little cat! He was just skin and bones, and i felt so bad for him. I got out, and he was super friendly and all rubbing against me. Thing is, we weren't allowed to have pets at our apartment. i petted him a bit and set him down..and each time someone would walk by, he'd follow them, crying, for a few feet, and then come back to me
it was obvious he was desperate for help. Rick came out with the food, and i said look at this kitty, isn't he gorgeous? Rick said "yeah, but we can't have a cat, so..what can we do? comem on, lets go."

I open the door of the car and Wonton tries to get in with me...and i turned to Rick and said "i cant leave him here. I'm sorry, but i'm taking him with us". He just nodded - he knew i'd made up my mind. I picked him up and put him on my lap, and he just looked up at me with big eyes on the drive home.

i had meant to bring him to a no kill shelter the next day..but he was so sweet. The night i brought him home, after i'd fed him some tuna (which he wolfed down) and gave him some water, he just hopped up on my bed and came and got on my lap uninvited, curled up, and went to sleep. and my heart melted, and i knew i was never giving him away to any shelter. I thought of what to name him, and said i know-we found him outside of the Wonton Noodle House - i'll name him Wonton
btw, we worked it out with my landlord so that he could stay.

He likes to sleep resting his head in the palm of my hand

Wonton is a handsome boy.

The OP made me laugh! Smidge doesnt seem to care if I touch the kitty condo (three levels) but if she is on it and I pet or kiss her she moves away and becomes stone - she behaves this way in no other location! Always up for kisses/cuddles.

The funny thing is, her perch is literally a half inch for the condo, and she hangs on that too, and doesnt mind if I pay attn to her there. Cat logic I guess?

Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
No, but when Pudge was a kitten she was a door-runner, and when she got out, I knew what to do. I'd go outside with a chair, stand in it, and put a can of the stinkiest catfood I could just below the eaves, then stand as still as possible. Surely enough, the little weirdo would casually saunter down the roof of the house and check out the food after a few minutes (allowing me to grab her while she was distracted and take her, wiggling and angry into the house. lol ).

She nearly gave me a heart attack a few times with that habit (especially as she began bonding with me and started rolling clumsily along the edge of the roof while purring when I came to get her. She almost didn't catch herself a few times.). Luckily, she never went anywhere else when she got out, and seems content to be indoors now that she's gotten older (and bonded with us).
