I adopted Missy a moth ago, I was told she had recently had kittens and they had adopted her babies out already. How long ago I don't know, she was really skinny!! We brought her home and she has not been out at all, don't want to risk her getting pregnant. Well, she went to town in our garage and we no longer have a mouse problem
She has been in the house for the past 2 weeks so I know she hasn't been hunting. But she has quite the tummy, just looks bloated. Last night I was looking at her as she walked through the house and she seems to be bloating out to sides. How soon can you tell if they are pregnant??? I wonder if she was in heat befre we got her. If so we have had her for almost 5 weeks. So that would put her mid-pregnancy. Any advice....and believe me she is getting fixed asap

The fact that she ate a bunch of mice and has not been outside while you've had her (good for you!) leads me to believe it might be worms making her tummy bloated. Get her to the vet, and they can give her meds to deworm her. If she is pregnant, it would be halfway through right? You wouldn't be able to feel babies moving, but her nipples would be pinker and swollen. Cats can become pregnant about a week after delivering the last litter (if that) and since the last owners let her get pregnant once, it could be that they let her get pregnant twice. A vet could tell you certain.

So it's worms or babies. I think it's worms, but it's just a guess. Have you seen any in her poop or has she puked up any? They'd look like long pieces of string. Or, a different type would look like little bits of rice stuck to her butt, or in her litterpan. Have you seen anything like that?

Haven't seen anything that looks like worms
....so I hope its not. Can I worm her myself or would that be not good considering that she could be pregnant???

You need to go to the vet before giving a cat any type of medicine. Over-the-counter meds for fleas and worms can be dangerous.

And you need to find out if she's pregnant. It is gross to think about worms, I know, but most cats have them at some point.

You can't delete a whole thread yourself, but you could possibly ask a moderator to move this one rather than reposting.

She needn't have outward signs of worms to have them-- it's just a suggestion rather than assuming she is pregnant, although you should act on the assumption and start feeding her kitten food just in case. It can't hurt since she was so skinny before she came to you, anyway. Either way, she needs seen by a vet.

If she hasn't been around any intact males since she gave birth..the chances are that she probably does have worms or is showing signs of a false pregnancy. Best thing to do is to get her checked out by a vet to verify that she isn't pregnant.

Thank you for taking Missy in and caring for her. Sounds like worms would be a likely diagnosis - a quick trip to the Vet wouldn't be a bad idea, they can give her the once over while she's there

OK so I don't think everyone is understanding....she was an outdoor cat before I got her 4 1/2 weeks ago. I don't know how old her last litter was but the lady told me that she thought she may already be in heat again. So there is the chance she got pregnant befroe she come home with me.
