I have a pregnant cat that we rescued 2 weeks ago. She is very sweet and loves to interact with us. We are going away for 3 days and have someone coming to check on her (its very hot in the house and we don't have a/c-just fans.) and open some windows for a few hours everyday that we'll be gone. But, I am extremely guilt ridden and worried that she'll feel abandoned again. I know I am being neurotic, but will someone please tell me she will survive and be okay without us. It just seems like she is so attached already, it breaks my heart to leave her so soon.

How close is she to delivery? If only a few weeks pregnant and she's not due within the next 2 weeks, she should be fine.

You are having someone come in to care for her. And hopefully the weather will not be too hot

I foster cats for a local agency. It is amazing how resiliant they are. My last sweetie, Sarabi, has been moved to a new foster home. Sarabi was a cat from the streets of Chicago, who had never been in a home. At the new foster home, she is primarily cared for by a teenager.

It took Sarabi a few days to show affection to the teenager, but now she trusts her. Then the teenager went to visit her Dad for 2 weeks. It took another few days for her to decide she wants attention from the girls Mom, who is now caring for her.

While I'm sure Sarabi doesn't totally understand what has gone on, the fact that the last 3 homes she stayed in all had caring people, has to be good for her. In time, she will go on to a forever home, but in the meantime, the adjustments have not harmed her IMHO.

Same with your kitty. Late stage pregnancy would not be good to leave her, but a few days with someone coming in to care for her will be just fine.

My cat is approximately 6 weeks along...not exactly sure though b/c we rescued her, so have no idea when she got pg. Is this considered last stage of pg where we shouldn't leave her?
