Every day I am seeing more and more strays around my apartment.

I cannot keep all of them, and it is very hard for me to even try to feed any of them, as very rarely will they try and go NEAR my house.

and although we can only keep ONE cat here (oopse... I have two.) I cannot just sit around wondering if all of the cats are alright.

I guess my ?'s since I am still new to liking cats, and know close to nothing about them is.... what are a few things I can do to make their lives easier?

(Maybe, just maybe I can have a few outdoor pet cats.

Best thing you can do is get read up on a process called TNR....

http://www.alleycat.org/

Then see if you can work with a TNR group in your state to get these cats fixed:

http://www.alleycat.org/orgs.html

The problem with feeding them alone is that you will get into a cycle of more and more cats to feed. The importance of spaying/neutering is to stop the breeding and stabilize the population so you have a manageable number of cats.

You may also want to join this group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/feral_cats/

As there are a lot of people on that site who work with strays and ferals and can provide you with advice.
