they can go into heat anytime. Prue after her first heat would go into heat every 6 weeks, no matter the season.

also, cats are induced ovulators, they dont need to be in heat to get preggo, just mating can get them pregnant. If your not going to breed, then i would suggest getting your lil girl fixed asap.

Actually females will continue to have heat cycles all year long until they 1. get pregnant or 2. are spayed.

some females will go into heat MORE often in the spring/summer and less in the fall and winter.

My cat normally goes every 2-3 weeks in spring/summer but fall and winter she only goes into heat a few times total during both of those seasons.

Junior...forgive me for asking this but you have over 600 posts....are you a breeder?? I was just curious about the comment of your female cat going into heat more in the summer than winter.

Katie--- no and I have posted quite often about my cat (sorry to hijack). I didn't have the $ to have her fixed. Then my daughter let her out when she was in heat and was gone for 6 days. she came home. That was about 70-71 days that she came home. I wasn't sure if she was preg. or not and she hasn't had a heat since. As soon as I can I am taking her to the vets to be fixed now that I know she isn't preg. still not sure why she hasn't been in heat in 11 weeks though. But I am not a breeder. I have 4 INDOOR ONLY cats. 3 are fixed and the last one hasn't been fixed yet as life happened. they never go out but my 3 yr old let her out.

They can cycle year round.

I was lucky with most of my breeding rexes. They quit going into heat after the summer and never came back in till about the following February. But that seems to be pretty uncommon!

Cats are considered "seasonally polyestrus" and they are induced ovulators. Which, like the other posters said, means that they will go in and out of heat every couple of weeks until they are bred or spayed. The usually season runs from Feb/Mar through October.

But, they are all different. Some can go in and out of heat year round, and some are only affected a few months out of the year.
