I was wondering, which sounds better, a petfinder bio where it says "so & so is good with dogs, etc."(written facts about them) or "Hi! My name is so & so. I like dogs, etc."(as though the cat is saying it)???

I got asked to write bios for all the cats at the local HS, so I was just wondering...which one would *hopefully* get seen & get them adopted faster?

Oh I think it is so annoying when they post it from the animal's POV. Especially hate when it says "my mommy doesn't have time for me anymore" or "my mommy had a new baby and I am jealous of it". I don't know, i just find it annoying, but however they want to post those ads, whatever.

well, i don't like that, but i do like it from the cat's point of view...but i'm weird - i write stuff in the paws & reflect threads purportedly from my cats, so consider that!

People love sob stories & bless their hearts, they really want to feel like they "rescued" somebody (which they are). I would write them highlighting their past, and everything they've been through, and how they now "deserve a home of their own". Of course, I'm not saying to make stuff up, just highlight the hardships. It's a bit manipulative, but if it gets them a good home...

I kinda like the cat's point of view approach, makes it a bit more "purrsonal"
Good luck! Sounds like a big undertaking

It's one of those things that vary from person to person - and from cat to cat. Like, one of the cute written from the kitty's pov would suit some cats - like my Slayer or Sláine, but not my Molly or Bobby. A cross looking cranky cat sitting being a cutesy bio looks a little weird - they deserve a more biographical pov as suits their serious nature.

Maybe mix them up a bit, depending on your take on the cats? I know this is a challenge (an extra challenge actually) but maybe you could vary the tone of the cute bios to take into account the cat's personality. A shy kitty would 'talk' differently than an outgoing one - you know what I mean?

Good luck!

Oh - a second thought strikes - if you wanted to (and wouldn't get in trouble, of course!) you could post some of the bios you found tricky to write in the Lounge and we could suggest possible bios.

Some of them I can put things in their past, but most, sadly, are strays that have an unkown past(90% of our cats are strays
). The ones we know about, I have been putting a little in their past. I did one, I started with "Meow! My name is..." because she is super vocal. The others I just started "My name is ...& I am about ..years old". Any better ideas on how to start them?

There is one I would love to write something about "I need a home. Apparently after 8 years, my family decided they didn't have time for me anymore. Can you give me the wonderful home thy didn't and won't?". Then again, that would be rude. (I get angry over that particular surrender)

Same here. I have never read a whole bio written like that. I find the over-the-top cutesiness of it annoying, especially if it leaves out key details like age, personality, and general information about the animal in question. However, i truly despise the ones where they give absolutely no information about the cat except for a photo and "Call McShelter at..". If you couldn't even take the time to post the cat's age and sex, why should I take the time to call you?

Most of my pov bios are like "My name is Garfield. I was born sometimes in 2000. I am spayed and housetrained. I use a scratching post, too. I love to be around people and get petted." Honestly, there are so many cats right now, I can still recognize them by sight & all, but I don't have time to find out about them. If they have surrender forms, then I have a little more to write about them...

maybe you could start it with something like "Hello cat lovers!" or "will you be my new Meowmy?"

I like them from the cat's pov, as long as it isn't over the top, and there are also facts in there.

I like it from the cat P.O.V., but as someone who's been doing petfinder bio's for a year or two now I can tell you it gets harder & harder to do them as time goes on. Now I try & mix it up so I don't get bored & they don't all sound the same. Good luck & whatever you do have fun with it.
