About a week ago, I noticed a small scrape on Miss Nedicks's head, over her right eye. I thought it was the result of a fight between her and Nathan, as they had been pretty ornery due to the hot humid weather. I put a little Neosporin on it and it seemed to get better. Things have been relatively calm between the two cats since--just the normal stalk and pounce playing, nothing really aggressive--but a few days ago I noticed that Nedicks now has what looks like two small bruises on the back of her left ear (they are sort of reddish purple), and the scrape over her right eye seems to have reopened, though it is smaller than before. I don't think Nathan did this, and now I'm wondering whether he was even responsible for the first injury, but I'm at a loss as to where these things are coming from. Neither kitty has front claws, as their previous owner had them front-declawed. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on here? (I briefly considered that it might be ringworm, but it really doesn't look like ringworm.)

do you let your cats out? as it may be another cat around the neighbourhood.. some cats can be e-vil
keep an eye on this is could be ringworm also .. if this carries on i suggest u consult ur local vet for advice or for treatments for injury.
they have many different solutions to fighting with outside / wild / neighbourhood cats . i had the same problem with my cat and we soon found a solution.
good luck
keep me posted

Yeah, I thought it might be ringworm too at first, but it really doesn't look like it. Also my cats are strictly indoor only, so there's no one for them to fight with but each other, and that hasn't really been happening lately. I am just so puzzled by this.

sounds very tricky.. to me i think it is the other cat even if there claws have been clipped it is still possible for them to cause harm. have the been neutered? because the mating season can cause aggression towards other cats

Maybe Nathan did it with his back feet? He may have had Nedick's head near his feet, and rabbit kicked him - you know how they play fight, and kick with their back feet? That could explain the scratch and the bruising if he managed to accidentally do it with some force.

Possible. Also, Nathan gets a little bitey sometimes. I just was confused about the appearance of the new marks on her ear when I hadn't noticed them fighting. Of course, who knows what goes on when I am asleep.
I guess I will just keep a close eye on Nedicks's injuries and make sure they heal properly.
