Poke..it's good that you care about this stray cat. This is what I would recommend...contact a local humane society or shelter and see if they will lend you a humane trap. You will need to trap this cat and get it to the vet so that it can be scanned for a microchipped..but also so it can be health checked. If the cat is intact, I would go ahead and have it spayed or neutered. You will also want to post some flyers regarding 'found cat'. If you need a low cost clinic to take the cat to..below is a site that lists clinics by state:

If the cat is hungry and thin keep feeding it plenty of good quality food and lots of water and it will definitely stay around. Contact the local humane society and local vets offices and put up flyers to try to find the owner. It may be that the cat has been abandoned. Does the cat let you pet it and is it friendly? Or is it very afraid and wild looking / acting?

Yup, if you want it to stay, just feed it and pet it. It does sound like a vet trip is in order, though, being so skinny and dirty. If it did have owners, it doesn't appear that they took very good care of it. Bless you for helping this little one.

That is great to hear! I am so glad she found you. Has she been to the vet to be tested and vaccianted and spayed yet? I assume she had no microchip?
