I posted way back when about my excitement on adopting a Russian Blue from the Prairie Home Cattery in Kansas. Then I posted again about his sneezing and coughing. As many of you suggested I took him to the vet. He had a full physical and was put on antibiotics. That cleared him right up! He was an absolute LOVE giving him the pills - it was like they were candy to him!

So here's my next dilemma - I have been using the litter (woody pet) and food (iams wet and dry kitten) that he was brought up on and ever since his castration surgery (monday) he hasn't been able to keep wet food down. I took him to the emergency vet on July 4 and he was diagnosed as 'stressed'. We fed him baby food chicken (no additives or onions) for a couple days and slowly added in his dry food. Then yesterday - we gave him a bit of his dry food and a half hour later he threw it up again.

Is it possible that I just need to switch wet foods? Is my kitten intolerant of wet food? He keeps the dry food down no problem. Suggestions?

P.S. Here is a pic of Stoli:

What a cutie pie!! My guess is your kitty isn't allergic to wet food, but to some of the ingredients in the wet food. You might have to try some different brands (i.e. some will have less preservatives or additives - if any at all). Try some high quality wet (i.e just chicken, or venison and see what happens - chicken and venison are pretty gentle on the stomach, duck and beef can be a little richer).

You might also want to try putting out smaller amounts of wet. If your kitty is like my rambo he scarfs down whatever is there and then goes tearing around the house till he makes himself sick too.

Just some thoughts, I hope you figure it out.

Thanks for the quick response,

other than Hills, what other high end food would you suggest? I was reading the labels in the stores (grocery and pet) and all except Iams seemed to have a lot of 'by-product' stuff.

he is a doll. i love him to death. he loves to be on my shoulder, in my lap, in my face . . .just with me. I'm just getting used to all his different meows and what they mean.

That used to be MY Hello Kitty, actually I used to have a really old one like it (the one that changed colors in water) and he completely trashed it, then I hid this one and he found it. He carries it around the house all the time and proceeds to multilate it right in front of me. I've resigned myself to just letting him have his way with HK.

He is a beautiful cat, he is my dream cat. I love him to pieces.

I just hope I can get him to eat wet food - something to keep him hydrated.

P. S. I've started a blog for him - http://www.clearblogs.com/stoli

he's so cute! the photo with the tongue cracks me up. My russian blue mix, Natasha also has a really red long tongue. I don't have any advice about the wet food problem but he sure is adorable.

Some foods that don't have the byproducts include Natural Balance, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul, Solid Gold, Nutro Max Cat, Avoderm, and bunches of others. Which pet stores do you have near you?

Also, if your concern is keeping hydrated I've heard (and noticed) that some cats drink more if you have a fountain. My cats drink a lot out of the Petmate Freshflow.

Wow, some of these look GREAT. The Natural Balance and Avoderm wet foods stand out in my mind.

I have petco, petsmart, pet quarters. . . .i don't know if they have these though.
what about petfooddirect.com?
