My kitty phoenix who is 1 yr (we got hime at 3 months) doesn't like it when I'm on the computer. He whines and jumps on my lap or the keyboard. Sometimes he sounds so distressed. He sits by me and just meows. We've only had the PC for 1 month.

I just don't want him to be sad I'm on the computer.

Any advice?

What a cutie!!

Maybe you could put a chair next to you with a comfy cushion on it, so your baby could sit/lay next to you? Maybe if you put a kitty condo next to your computer desk, it would serve the same purpose?

HUGS!

Oh, another thought, give her treats (I've never met a kitty that didn't like a brand called Temptations) when she lays down quietly and lets you do your work. This will encourage her to do it more often.

Learn to live with it

I type with my feet up and the keyboard in my lap, and can do so with two cats lying on my chest. When the third jumps up it starts getting difficult.

I don't allow them on the desk, but I hate to discourage them from lap sitting. If I am at a crucial juncture I gently blow at them and they usually decide they have something more important to do.

I've just learned to type one-handed. Two of them like to be held and sleep on my left shoulder. I also have cleared a spot on my desk so they can settle down there (though Lucy likes to sleep on all of the stuff in front of the monitor).

That sounds like me. Only my cats insist on 2 handed cuddles and won't settle for me using one hand to cuddle and one to type.

Chynna is 14 and has a hard time jumping up these days. So she's figured out that if she jumps on the shelf by my knees, and taps my knee with her paw I'll pick her up and cuddle her. At first it was cute, but eventually it's become quite annoying as she will do this at least every 30 minutes when the urge strikes her. I never say "no", because a Mommy cat would never push her baby away, and I figure she's older and I don't have much time left with her, so I give her all the cuddles and "love bugs" that she wants.

The main time Lynx wants to be cuddled these days is when I am on the computer. He gets on the desk in front of the monitor and wants my arms around him (or he lays on the arm I'm using the mouse with). That doesn't bother me so much. What does bug me is when he jumps up there in front of the monitor, throws one of his back legs up in the air and starts grooming himself 'down there'. There are much better places to do that then right in front of something I'm trying to look at.

Well like someone already said. I have a kitty bed in the extra chair in the computer room she will sleep there , sometimes she will get on the desk and watch the world famous Bird TV. She will often sometimes sleep between me and the keyboard
lol that makes it hard. but it works.
