I have read many of these threads and they are very helpful, but I have a question or two still....
I have read about the 'mucous plug' and various types/amounts of discharge and I understand that no two cats are the same BUT how much 'discharge' is normal? And to be blunt, is it very messy?
I ask because we now have Spots in the empty bedroom and I am concerned about the carpet. It is a very light color. When we are in for the day (or night) and I am sure that the outside doors will stay shut we let her roam the house. She is not due for about 3 weeks but I don't want to have the added worry about the carpets as this is a rental home, not OUR home...I am looking for a used large dog crate because we just cannot afford one at this point but even with that she will not be caged up in it 24/7.
Thanks!

The plug is off white in color, soo, even if it gets on your carpet it should not stain, or at least not stain enough to be visible at a casual glance.

Good luck. Have you had your vet examine your cat lately? They could provide more information about preping for a birth.

Well I had her at the clinic yesterday and they were pretty nonchalant about cats giving birth! I guess because they are used to it, but I have read so many different things about 'discharge' both before and after birth that I was a bit concerned....

It's fine for her to not to be caged 24/7...but she cannot go outside again. So as long as you have a set up that will confine her to the indoors it's fine.
