I just wanted to share my story with everyone...because of all the wonderful inspiration and advice I get from this site, it helped me be successful for my first experience of re-homing a beautiful stray kitty who was down on his luck.
During my usual morning routine before work, I make a coffee and sit outside and have a cigarette (NO smoking in my house! Mainly because of our kitties and because I despise the smell of stale cig's.). A gorgeous, but severely emaciated and flea covered cat came running on to my porch. He jumped straight onto my lap, looked into my eyes and meowed pathetically at me! Because we have a lot of stray cats in our neighbourhood and a crazy cat hoarder across the street, I ran inside and put out some food and water for him while trying to think of what to do. I figured at this point, the least I could do was feed him. Most of our local strays just come by for a snack and run off with no contact with me, but this little guy was diferent. Not only was he starved for food, but also for attention and love. I sat with him for a long while, then raced inside to change for work and left...thinking that if he was still there after work when I got home, We'd get him to the vets and clean him up. It was the least I could do for this beautiful little soul. Lo and behold, I arrived home and there he was, running out from under my porch to greet me! I think I was just befriended! I fed him a bit more and sat with him until my fiance got home an hour later. I wrapped him in a blanket and off to the vet we went! We got in right away, and suprisingly, there was very little wrong with him! Just the fleas, so he was bathed and given his shots and dewormed. To my suprise, he was fixed! He must have either been dumped on our lawn, or ran off or something. We found out he was approx. a year old. We set up a comfy little area in our shed for him to sleep where he could come and go as he pleased, since he LOVES being outside, I didn't want to bring him in (my boys are strictly indoor) and have to let him in and out. Not to mention he LOVES to spray everything, even though he's fixed. So needless to say, he's been my best friend for the past two weeks, full of love, and grateful for me taking him in. Not to mention, fattening up!
Recently I was telling some ladies about him at work, because I didn't know what we would do come winter, either make him "suffer" indoors (and spray our house) where it's warm, or build him a warm insulated straw area in our shed. One of the girls piped up saying they wanted an outdoor cat for their new barn they just built, and already had one other friendly, outgoing fixed male out there that needed a friend! My hear skipped a beat and I just hugged her to death! She's a wonderful lady and I never even thought of asking her to take him. (They just moved to the country and were spending a lot of money renovating and building that barn) She has turned into my guardian angel! He travelled there with me yesterday and she said the two of them are already getting along perfectly and she (and the kitty) couldn't be happier!
So here's some pics to go along with this post. BTW, I named him Ravey because he ate so ravenously the first morning I met him!
"Oooo! Mommy, what's this contraption?!"
"Am I handsome or what? Look at my beautiful eyes!"
Making a silly face for the camera!
"Nyah! MOM enough pics!! I wrinkle my nose at you in disgust!"
