When I went to the vet, they told me that Rocket's eye infection was caused by possible conjunctivitis. I was looking this up and the diagnosis didn't seem correct to me. It states that it is a possible uri in the cat and some of the symptoms could include, gummy eyes, lethargy, not eating, coughing and sneezing. Except for the goopy eye Rocket has none of the other symptoms. She never did a "dye" test on his eye to check for any problems for that? I'm confused? Should I be concerned? Rockets eye is getting worse. Granted he only went to the vet today, We went to get some ice cream, came back and his eye was matted shut, something it hasn't done since it started getting all icky last Sat ( All it has been doing is discharging a milky substance from it and getting all swollen). We gave him his meds that the vet gave us, 2ml of cefadroxil (everyday until it's gone) and 5 mg of predazone (1/2 a day for 3 days and then 1/2 every other day until they are gone). No eye drops, Just ear drops to help his ears, and they are drops he's had before that didn't work. I told her that and she said that with the antibiotic, it should work this time? I hate new vets. (sorry to offend anyone, but I really do)I feel like they aren't looking out for my cats. Just my money and it makes me REALLY

Does anyone have any information that might be able to help me? I will be taking my cat back to the vet monday if the meds don't seem to be helping him. I am very upset right now.

My cat had conjuncitivis last year . It was just a touch of it but his eye was shutting and had a dark pink around the eyelid. I had eye drops for him which is something I definitely believe they should have given you. I'm sure the antiobiotic will clear up an infection but I would call and ask about the eye drops.

Did your kittys eye have like a matting on it that's what my kitty has. Rocket has dark eyelids. You can't tell if they are pink or not. All I know is that he is not a happy cat. He was before I took him to the vets today, now after giving the meds and everything, he's sleeping more, and when he's awake, his eye is matted, and yuckier then before. I guess I will wait and see. But only until Monday and then I will take him to the vets I normally see.

Jaffa has had conjunctivitis a few times in the past few years. It's always only his eye that's affected, he never has any other symptoms. He gets given antibiotic eye drops which clear it up.

Aww poor little fella.

It is a bit odd that your vet didn't do a dye test.

When i have taken any of my cats to our vet for eye problems its the first thing they do. Its to see if there is any damage to the eye itself, scratch etc.
When i had an eye problem it was the first thing they did to me as well !

Once that is done its usually just a case of eye ointment. If Jaffa will let you do it try gently wiping the gummy mess with cotton wool soaked in warm water. It may help him feel more comfortable.

That's what I thought too, but since it was a new vet and she was making me really angry, I guess I wasn't thinking to clearly about it at the time. Looking back on it though, it's been bothering me more, and Rocket's eye isn't getting better, really. It's still gunky in the mornings, but I guess we will see...
