An Eye for an Eye

On the local news, there was just a report that two neighbors are in jail for killing each others cats. One shot the other's cat with a rifle and killed it, so the other broke the first killer's cat's neck in retaliation and said "Now we're even".

Now there are not one, but two people in jail, and not one, but two dead cats. I am greatly saddened that the cats died such terrible deaths.

I could not, however, help but wonder if anyone would have responded if it were just one person saying that their cat had been shot or strangled. What do you think?

What would they have done if it was one of their KIDS that was hurt/killed instead of thier cat?

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

They're both idiots. If someone shot Zissou I would be so upset I wouldn't even be thinking about retaliation until later. I can't say I wouldn't punch him right in the mouth, but I can say I certainly wouldn't hurt another innocent animal just because it's owner was a

Well, somebody did take Chester from me. I don't know if an eye for an eye would ever work for me, since she hates cats and I would never hurt her cat even if she has one.

If someone hurt my cat and they had a cat as well...i definitely wouldn't hurt their cat too....Two cat's shouldn't have to suffer at the hands of cruel humans. I would however take legal action against that neighbor so that it wouldn't happen in the future to any more kitties. Also, that just goes to show yet again why my animals are ALL indoors only. There are soo many crazy people out there.

I think it is very rare that people who go around hurting other people's cats would have cats themselves.

Cats are not like kids. You can get kids by being careless, but cats are a lifestyle choice. You can't really go around hating cats while having a cat by yourself.

I wonder if they have children. Their children would certainly be heartbroken.

That's terrible...no, I don't think there would have been such a reaction if one cat was killed, either.

Those people should have been killing EACH OTHER rather than innocent cats. Sick.

I couldn't kill any living thing...If someone shot my cat i would
call the police,why shoot his/her cat..the cat didn't do anything
wrong...the owner did

As crushed and angry and hurt and just plain upset as I would be if someone harmed so much as a single hair on my boys, I would never, ever, ever take that out on another innocent creature, even if that innocent creature had the misfortune to be somehow related to the person who harmed my boys.

Sadly, the legal system would treat it as merely "property damage" or some such thing, but I'd pursue a civil suit and try to clean out their bank account. I'd donate all the money to cat rescue, because the object wouldn't to be to profit from something bad happening to my babies, it would be to hit the perpetrator where it hurts, since to most folks, the wallet seems to be the most important thing.

Grr, it makes me feel bad just thinking about it.

But you can have animals AND see them as disposable. Many people have animals for practical or utility purposes only. Ie, Cats as barn mousers and dogs to guard territory etc.... All animal owners are not created equal

I wouldn't want to harm another creature if someone harmed my boys. First of all, it would make me sick to do it.

It seems to me that this is exactly the problem in this case. For these men, it seems their cats were not so much pets or beloved family members to them as property - and so when one's "property" was damaged, he retaliated by similarly taking away the other's "property". A sad disregard for the fact that every life is important, even if its "only" a cat.

WHAT? They call that "even"!! OMG! How :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor: stupid are they?? Those poor cats died as inhumane as it comes, and their stupid owners, are well.....where they belong, I guess!!
