I have a cat, which is 6 years old, male. He's pretty big....i never had any problems with him until around over a year ago when he attacked my mum's friend, it wasnt just a scratch, he ripped her leg open and they had to put 8 stiches and she couldnt walk for weeks. Everytime she would come over he would act very weird, make strange noises, untill one day he attacked her. Since then hes been attacking everyone who comes to my house, including my mum and me sometimes, well he attacks me and my mum only if we try to stop him from attacking our guests. Now we have to lock him up if someone comes over, and i can just tell by the noises he makes that he hates it and hes suffwring, i think it makes him angrier. and just today...he got out and he attacked my mum, severely damaged her arm, i came to grab him, he bit my arm too...and im not talking about just a bite or scratch, its really really bad...injuries that require medical attention.

If there are any profesionals here, or who had a problem like this, tell me what can i do? my mum wants to put him to sleep, i dont know if i can do it, but it seems that hes just gone crazy, i really dont know what to do with him..Thanx.

Sudden aggression can mean a medical problem. There could have been something off about this person that came in that set him off, he attacked, got what he wanted and now there is a pattern set.

You can try the Feliway air things to help diffuse his aggressiveness. Your vet may be able to give you medication to mellow him out.

But before you decide, I would definitely talk to the vet. And in the meantime, keep him locked up when friends come over. I don't care if he does sound pitiful or mad or whatever. If he attacks the wrong person, they will sue you and the cat could be taken away, put to sleep and autopsied for rabies. Not to mention, people with weakened immune systems can get really sick from cat bites/scratches. A woman from our church died because her cat attacked her suddenly and caused a lot of damage. She got cat scratch fever and died as she was quite elderly.
You don't want to be paying major medical bills as a result of your cat attacking.

Sorry you are going through this. Hope you find some answers soon.

Well thanx for the advice, thats what i will do, talk to a vet about this.

And i am not worried about being sued because of this
i dont like in the states, i live in Dubai, you cant sue for this kind of stuff....so no worries, i just really dont want to have to put my cat to sleep. Well thanx again.

i don't have any answers for you, but i just wanted to tell you i've been there.. my cat suddenly became aggressive for no reason that we could find... an issue with a favorite toy that he's obsessed with may have been the problem, but there had been sporadic aggression before that.

it sounds like he's really territorial. i use Feliway and it's really worked well for my cat - he's pretty much back to normal, tho i wouldn't say he's 100%, and ii dont know if he ever will be.

Good luck, and i hope you find a solution. xx

Please click here to read about how to stop aggression toward people. Make sure you pay close attention to the section near the bottom about very violent cats. It sounds as if your cat fits into this category.
