I found a sale on the plastic shelving that I was using to make cat perches and the "Tupper-lair" from, so I bought as many as I could get into the car, of different sizes. (8, I think)

I've have discovered this morning that you can get some interesting shapes by cutting some of the legs, and mixing shelf sizes....the cats are enjoying the "testing phase" quite a lot too

I also bought a couple of 100' rolls of sisal rope. I'm going to wrap the front legs on the shelves for scratching posts.

wonderful idea!!! How are you going to attatch the rope to the legs? Do you just tie it to the top of a leg, wrap it around it tightly, and tie it at the bottom, or do you use glue?

I think I will steal your idea as well, how awesome!!!!

Actually and honestly, I haven't decided on that part yet. I have thought about drilling small holes in the uprights, drawing the rope through and knotting it, but I was afraid that it might weaken the plastic. I've thought of notching the bottoms of the uprights so I can pull the rope into the notch, then push the upright into the hole. I even have some "two sided tape", but I don't believe that it would hold up to this gang. I'll let you know as soon as I figure it out

I attached the sisal onto my uprights (wood) with hot glue. It's cheap and pretty fast. With plastic I might recommended starting it off with some super glue (and maybe mixing in some super glue along the way) but hot glue has stood up for over a year on mine, and through many fosters.

Can you share - where did you find the shelves and what is the brand name? I would love to make a long row of these for my sun porch (it has a 30 foot row of windows that start about 2 feet tall).
