My name is RenÃ[emoji]169[/emoji]e and I've had my two cats for about a year now. My sister used to foster cats for Pets and People in Oklahoma. She was out of room at home, but a lady at Petsmart brought these two tiny kittens to her to get rid of. They had to have been 3 weeks old. She brought them to me and I fell in love. Initially, my husband and I were only going to take the girl because she was the braver of the two with our chocolate lab, Buddy. But at that age, my sister suggested we foster the boy until they were old enough to separate. This was kind of a ploy to get my husband to fall in love with both cats, and it worked. Neo and Sapphire are now about a year old and they are the loves of my life! Sapphire was the runt of the litter and is still pretty small. Neo is smaller than the adult cats my sister and mom have, but much bigger than Sapphire.
Neo: Loves to be held and snuggles frequently. He likes to lay on his back and have his belly rubbed, and most of the time he's okay with me clipping his claws. As I've mentioned in another post, he loves music. I'm a music teacher and am working on a master's degree in music education right now, so there's a lot of singing and playing piano in the house. He wants to be near it all the time. He's a great mouser and we haven't had a mouse problem since he's joined our family. He also thinks he's a dog and loves Buddy. You can catch him grabbing Buddy's face with his paws and licking him all over his head. When he thinks you're not looking, Buddy will kiss him back, but always looks sheepish if caught. I also think he's addicted to coffee. He accidentally got a little taste from a mostly empty cup on the coffee table and now he cries whenever he smells coffee in the house.
Sapphire: Will not allow you to pick her up, but if she comes to you, you simple must pet her. She will not allow you to do anything else. She is extremely demanding but so very loveable. She chirps at us like a bird when she talks. She hates music, thinks it's always too loud and reacts similar to the way she acts when I turn on the vacuum cleaner - puffing up her tail and taking off. She is very aware of her size and is the underdog in every way. Neo gets everything first and she only explores when he is done. She will not eat anything you give her unless it's dog food. We're working on that.
I'm excited about finding this forum and hope that some of my cat questions can be answered. While I've been around cats all my life, these are the first I've ever actually raised myself, and the difference is huge. Thanks for making me feel welcome!
