My once very angry mom cat has wayyy calmed down to her loving self. (Thanks to your great advice and a little time!) She had the kittens inside of a box spring that was tiled on its side. They are about a week and a half old, and I don't even know how many there are! I have not gone into get them out of the box spring for fear that mom cat will go psycho. Should I trap mom and move the kittens into a box so I can check on them? or should I just let momcat bring them out when she's ready? I want to post some pix soon
!
Thanks!

Does anyone use the box springs? You should check them i would say. Put the mother in another room for right now and check and see if they are okand see how many there is. I'm sure someone else will come along and let you know if you should move them or not i have moved my kittens a couple times since they have been born and the mommy was fine with it.But i would at least check on them.

I would check on them. If you have a large box you can try putting them in that with some bedding and see if the momma cat will leave them in there. They would be safer in a box then in that box spring.

I would get them out and put them in a safer spot trap momma and move the babies into a more secure room.

Personally, I would leave them there. See if you can shut her out of the room...maybe entice her with some tuna or another treat. Then try to check them out quickly. But given her initial violent reaction, I would say she is hyperalert to protecting her kittens. You do not want to upset her further.

Ideally, you would be handling them and weighing them...but the best care for a newborn kitten is a loving Momma. Your kittens have that, and if it was me, I would just wait and let her keep providing the care.

Put a box or two in the room as options for kitten beds.

Within another week, I'll bet the babies come sneaking out on their own! Best of luck with them. I'm sure you are just itching to get your hands on those babies!
