Around 2:30 in the morning, an African American man jumped my fence. He was screaming to "open the ******* door" and he was kicking and banging my door. I come out of the room thinking that it is my neighbor who needs help, from far way I see that it is a man that I never seen before. Lucky for me I have bars on my windows and on my front door...so I knew he wasn't going to get in. I called the cops, and tell the operator what's going on. I'm on the floor because I didn't know if the guy had a gun, I start calling the cats who were hiding in the living room. They all come running to my room (I never seen Gordo run so fast
) and I locked my door.

A minute later I hear noise on top of my roof, so I called the police again. I didn't know he had gone to my neighbor's house. The operator told me that she just got a call from 2989. I told her that she was neighbor and that she was an elderly woman with sick husband. The guy did the same thing to her, but unlike me she doesn't have bars on her window and her front door. He broke her screen door and kicked holes in her door. After that he got really mad and broke the window from her living room. He cut himself and was bleeding. He then went to her room where he broke her 2 windows. (She was inside that room) Then he went to her husband room and broke his window. (Glass fell all over the man, he is paralyze) Then he went around her backyard, and she was freaking out because she has a sliding door, and she thought he was going to break it, but thank god he didn't. He made his way back to the front where he tried to get in her house by trying to get inside one of the broken windows. She told me when she saw that guy's head inside her house that she thought she was dead.

Since he couldn't get in he got tired and sat in one of her patio chairs screaming and cursing. The police finally came and tackle him to the ground. Turns out the guy had drugs in his system. He was going to kill someone that night, he was in another world. My neighbor was scared, all she did was cry.... I felt so bad for her.

One thing that upset me off last night was my 2 dogs. I thought they were dead, they didn't bark at all. They were hiding from the guy, and these are dogs that bark at anything that moves. The second thing that upset me off was the police, it took them 10 minutes to come to my house. The police station is less than 5 minutes away. We called them 3 times and they still took their precious time.

Please pray for my neighbor, she's going through a lot right now. Everyone in the neighborhood is helping her. The police told her that they were going to send someone to come clean up the mess, but no one came and she had to clean up all the blood, and all the broken glass. To make it worse her insurance told that she has to put $1,000 dollars to fix her windows, and she doesn't have the money. She doesn't have to worry about that because we're going to help her.

She went through it alone, as for myself I had my roommate and my brother. She told me that it was the worst day of her life, and I know how she feels, because I feel the same way.

Here is a pic of her house, that's her husband room. You can still see blood.

Here is the window to her living room, and her door. You can see the screen door on the floor. Next to it is the window to her room. There's another window on the other that he also broke.

I won't say anything inane about how it will all be ok, even though I'd like to.

But you (and yours) and your poor neighbour and her husband will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Unfortunately something like that happened in my neighborhood also. I installed deadbolts on my bedroom door.

Tina, thank God everyone is okay, physically at any rate!
Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers to heal mentally as well.

Poor dogs...they didn't know what to do in the face of an actual threat!
It's probably a good thing they didn't bark, though. With that guy's state of mind, he wouldn't have perceived it as the warning it's meant to be, and may well have harmed the dogs.

I'm really glad to hear everything is OK, even though it sounded horrible!

Its sad to see people get high and crazy like that. It just makes the world an even scarier place.

Thanks, you guys are so nice.
Well, we put plywood on her windows, and some of the guys went home depot to buy the glass. Hopefully we can find someone to put it up tomorrow.

Holy cow, I can't even imagine how scary that would have been and to be an older lady and all alone.

I'm really glad that no one was physically harmed, but this will probably stay with you guys mentally and emotionally for a long time. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

Everything is back to normal, she's a bit calm now.
All I know is that the guy got arrested, I hope he's still in jail.

Tell her to call the district attorney or the victims advocate to see if they can make the guy eventually pay to fix it. Sometimes they can do that if he gets put on probation. It may take a long time though to see any money.

Thank God you are OK! You must have been scared to death! I'm so sorry about your elderly neighbor. How upsetting for her.
How nice for you and the neighbors to pull together to make sure her window is replaced.

Wow! I'm glad everyone is okay... that really sucks. I used to live in a neighborhood where stuff like that happened a lot.. we got burglarized more than once, but we finally got out of there. Making friends with your neighbors is the best thing you can do to keep stuff like that from getting really bad. Good security helps, supposedly... although it didn't bother the second guy that robbed our house.
I think the deadbolt on the bedroom is a GREAT idea... and keep a baseball bat (or stun gun, or if you're brave, a real gun) in every closet, and MACE in every room.

Just curious, if it had been a white guy, would you have said "a white man...?"
