I have 17 cats and 4 litterboxes, but they are various sizes of plaste crates. One of them is over 10 gal...easy. It takes 3 buckets of litter to fill it. Anyway, they all share and share alike. In fact, I used to have 6 boxes but cut back because they have their favorites, for some reason, and I couldn't see any reason to have so many when they were only using certain ones the most anyway. So I just use these great big ones and scoop regularly. I just make sure I keep a consistant level of litter in the boxes and use a premium brand of litter. I NEVER have to empty and clean the boxes.

my two little boys share the same box...i know it's blasphemy, but i only have one litterbox for two cats. they don't seem to mind, i think because they come from the same litter and that's all they've known (they shared a cage as well at the animal shelter). anyhoo, i clean it twice a day with ZERO problems.

Well its funny, cos the only one who uses the litter-box is my male, Big Guy Dino, the two girlies both go outside and wouldnt dream of using the box. Its not even cos its Dinos, I´ve put a 2nd box down and the girls werent the slightest bit interested. Dino goes outside but will come in to use the box !!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Sierra and Serenity share their pan quite nicely. We had two for a while after Serenity joined us, but neither would use the other one, and Serenity just wanted to roll in it (she has a funny attraction to litter
) so, we eliminated it.

Ronnie and Reggie are brothers and have always shared a litter box. When they were little they used to go in together which was odd!

Makcenzie, I did the same thing with Lily. I got her a kitten sized litter pan. The only thing that resulted was a eliminated on Lily. Twitch would use Lily's little litter pan & Lily would try to use it at the same time, crawling under her butt.

Maybe you could make steps up to Harley's litterbox so Davidson cold get in there? Then Davidson could feel like a big boy because he uses the big boy box?

I have 10 litterpans, 2 upstairs for Twitch & Lily, 5 for Ophelia, 1 downstairs in my bedroom for Lily, & 2 for Damita & Chico. I scoop 2x a day, whether or not there is anything in the box. It stirs up the litter & they like that.

You should be fine with just 2 as long as you scoop regularly. I only have 2 for Polly and Prego and they are just fine. I scoop twice a day.

When we brought Polly home (11 weeks) Scot made her a kitten sized litter box out of a dishpan by cutting down the sides about halfway. She hardly ever used it. She wanted to use Prego's big box. I thought she'd be too small, but she hopped right in without any trouble.

My cats seem to favor the bathroom litter box. They use it much more than the computer room box. Now I'm tempted to get rid of the computer room box.

I have 2 fewer litter boxes than recommended. My 4 cats share 3 boxes, but I scoop twice a day. They don't have any issues, but with 2 cats I'd have at least 2 boxes. I'd have 5 if I had the room, but since I'm only in about 400 square feet it's difficult to find room for another 2 boxes. Actually for the first time ever I saw 2 in the box at once last week. Poor Maggie was trying to do her business & her big brother Isaac pushed his way in & shoved her to the back of the box & did his thing. She went after he did.

My 4 cats share 2 boxes. One is in the bathroom, the other in the room where Orlando and the kittens sleep. They all pretty much use any of them. I am not sure on what basis they decide which to use, but they know!

I have two kitties and we have two litter boxes. But they are both in one place (we live in an apartment). They use one for poo and one for pee. I never noticed that untill I read this thread, lol!

We have two kitties and just one box and they share it with no problem. But maybe that's because they're littermates?? Sometimes I see them in there together!

I currently have 5 cats and 3 kittens. They all used to share one litterbox until I added another one because there are so many. They pee and poop in both. But they always are very interested in anything new that is brought into the house and spent some time smelling and checking it out before they deemed it worthy to use.

well, i have 3 boxes & 4 cats. before Chip, i had 2 boxes & 3 cats. nobody seemed to have any problems. the boxes stay fairly clean 'cause they're all littermaids... like you, there is nowhere else in the house for another box, so 3 is the limit. i have noticed that the bedroom closet boxes are preferred over the hallway closet box, but i have no idea why.
i just know they need emptying at least 2-3 times as often!
