I need ideas of which air fresheners work the best..I am in a basement apartment now, and I feel like it smells like basement which is really gross.

What do you guys like to freshen up your place?

Oust fans! Also go get a box of regular baking soda and sprinkle it all over your carpet then vacuum it up. That should take some of the smell out.

I use the Glade plug ins or the crystal scents (I think that's what it's called) they seem to last for a long time.

Since most air fresheners torture my lungs (and my kitties' sensitive noses, as well) I am pretty much restricted to cleaning
I use FragranceFree OxyClean and that helps a LOT!! Also, I boil cinnamon & cloves in a pan and that scent seems to do fine. Boiling peppermint works, too, but doesn't seem to infiltrate as long.

Ooo...I use to live in a basement apartment too..

I used the Glade Plugins to help improve the smell. Plus I would buy the carpet deoderizer (sp?) and vacuum with it every week.

I like Febreze..Lysol could work in your situation if you get a the source of the smell. But I would also leave a lot of baking soda out, and maybe invest in a dehumidfier, that will dry out the place a bit.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I use yankee candles. They are really the best at keeping your home smelling nice. And I keep them up & away from the kiddos. They last a long time too, and although they are expensive, they are much better than any old regular candle.

If I have something that is a really gross smell, like my trash can went rotten by the time I got home from work, then I use Lysol disinfecting spray. On surfaces, as well as in the air.

I love love love Febreeze

I usually use Bath & Body Works air fresheners - they are the plug ins, they are really awesome and last for a long time. Sweet pea is the best!

Method has a new line of air fresheners and soy candles. They smell great and don't seem to overpower you like some of the Glade scents.

I also use Febreeze on the furniture... I just make sure it dries before Dori or Brody come into contact with it.

Hope this wasnt mentioned yet...

I buy something called damp-rid... I get it at walmart...and it looks like an oxyclean tub, just remove the lid and place wherever... it pulls moisture out of the air, eliminating damp basement smells...

I use them in the bathroom closets, and the basement. I like them... it has no scent because they dont cover smell , they eliminate them.

ALSO : walgreens sells a brand of candles called patriot... I use carmel pecan bars scent, smells like I am baking.. not harsh or heavy.... they last forever, and 1 jar scents my whole house.

We have two of those Sharper Image air filters, and I love them! You can get a compact model that does about 400 sp ft used & reconditioned through their site for only 60$. Then it would take the mold out of the air instead of covering it up.

I also love the original unscented Febreze. And they make these sacks of volcanic rock that absorb odors that last your whole life, you just have to put them in the sunlight every few months to recharge them. I can't find any online...

Linen smells - they have sprays, plug-ins, and gel things that you set on shelves (I want to say it's by Glade...not sure...they're at Target, lol).

Nuh uh...might give me away!
I use the Febreeze for fabric and for air. They have some light frangrances for the air that aren't too bad. I've found that it's about the only thing I've tried that truly does eliminate odor...not cover it up!

I've had to use it many times after my fiance has used the bathroom.

For those of you who said Febreze, be careful around your kitties! My vet said not to let a cat or dog in the room/area where Febreze is sprayed for 30 mintues because it can have some nasty side effects. I threw my bottle out.

I use a Yankee Candle Tart warmer. Someone here reccomended it & I have to say I L-O-V-E it!! I change the tarts all the time just so it smells yummy. I think I have strawberry in right now! Otherwise I just oust spray all the time.
