Recently my roommate brought home a male kitten (now about 9 or 10 weeks old) from a litter his friend's cat had. It took a little over a week for my cat (a spayed female of about 14 months old). They have been getting along great now, they play wrestle and chase each other all the time an curl up on my bed together and sleep.

Today however, I walked into the room and saw that the kitten, Athrun, was suckling at my cat, Boo. Upon watching a bit more I noticed Boo started to groom him while he suckled... she just suddenly went all motherly on him.

Boo has been spayed for over two months now and she has never, ever been pregnant. I know for I have had her since she was 7 weeks old.

Boo seems pretty content when he is nursing or attempting to nurse. But my question is... could she be actually producing milk? I mean, they both seem content while doing this and Athrun obviously must be getting something because he hasn't exactly given up on it, which I would assume he would if there was no milk.

Is this healthy? Should I seperate them for a while? I don't know what to do.

Don't worry about it. It's a comfort thing. He's actually a little young to be away from his MomCat.

Demile..since your cat was spayed and never had a litter, she will not produce milk....but it is harmless for the little kitten to suckle on her if she is ok with it. If your friend needs a low cost clinic for his friend, there is a rather extensive list for California:

I think that is absolutely precious!
She has a "baby' to care for and he has a "mom" to comfort him. It's great that the two of them get along so well.

My cat lucy was spayed then about 2 weeks later I took in 2 16ish week old kittens. she ignored them then after fews days i noticed them on bed when i woke up and strange noises-she was actually producing milk
never had a litter(tok her in when she was about 5 1/2 month) she did go though a few heats tho. she nursed them for another 3 months(yeah theres a sight-kittens buigger then thier "mom" oddly enoughn I took in the rest of the litter over the next month(they were outside-got dumped) and she did nt like any of them. As long as hes eating in addition to this I wouldn't worry at all. RJ
